I'll chance YOU, if you chance ME :)

Hey guys, I'm a rising senior, and I was hoping to get chanced. I'm thinking of applying to (not applying to all of them though, hahaha), in order of preference:

U Chicago
Columbia
Georgetown
Cornell
Tufts
Brandeis

And, why not, if you could chance me for HYPS that'd be cool.

APs/IBs not available in my school board (Ontario, Canada); took most rigorous classes available, though. My overall average is (currently) around 90.4. That's, what, 3.8? Somewhat competitive public school in a somewhat competitive region.

No ranking at my school, but I'm probably in the top 5% out of around 400 students.

SATs: 2260
CR 740
M 770
W 750

I plan to take Chem, U.S. History and French SAT Subject Tests in October.

ECs:
Professional on-camera and voice actor based in Toronto (busy in 9, 10; economy gutted it afterwards, but still took classes and auditioned): 9, 10, 11, 12
French Horn player in school band (1st chair in 12): 9, 10, 11, 12
Student Council Member (Grade 9 Representative, Independent 11, Student Body President 12): 9, 11, 12
Lead in school production of Macbeth: 10
Vocal training and performances in public/at seniors’ homes: 9, 10
Kids Help Phone Student Ambassador and Barrie Chapter primary SA: 11, 12
Editor-in-Chief of school newspaper (I founded 11): 11, 12
Head and founder of school writer’s guild: 12
Presidential Classroom Future World Leaders’ Summit: summer ’09

I'm not afraid of the eighteen quintillion essays, as I'm a pretty good writer, and I'll have some very good recommendations. I want to apply for political science.

Am applying for financial aid as an international. Sigh.

Leave a link and I'll chance you back! Thanks in advance.

U Chicago - Impossible to tell based on numbers, because essays and recs are the most important part of your application. Definitely possible with good essays and recs, but being an international that needs aid will hurt, as it will at all of these schools.
Columbia - Reach
Georgetown - High Match/Low Reach
Cornell - Low Reach
Tufts -High Match
Brandeis -High Match
HYPS - Possible, but very unlikely

I have a 90.4 GPA as well and it’s a 3.67, not a 3.8. Like Michael2010 said, Recs, ECs and Essays are the things that can be tipping factors. Almost everyone applying to U Chicago has the numbers but the essays, recs and ECs are what can be the tipping factors.

Good to know. It’s all weird here in Canada: an A is anything above 80, haha, and teachers are more judicious with their A grades. Oh well!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/745104-please-chance-me-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

Your SAT scores look in well order, even as a international & through judging your sat1 score, it seems you will do well on the sat2s.

Columbia - low Reach
Georgetown - High Match
Cornell - Low Reach
Tufts -High Match
Brandeis -High Match

U. Chicago - Just ace the essay, and you’ll be fine.
Columbia - Reach
Georgetown - Low Reach
Cornell - High Match
Tufts - Reach
Brandeis -Match

HYPS all reaches, as they are for everyone.

Good luck!

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/745328-dont-these-titles-all-boil-down-same-thing-chance-please.html</a></p>

Thanks, guys, any other opinions?

Alright, bump.

Very, very nice. You are obviously a good writer, so when it comes to many of the essays, you should be set. While you GPA is not amazing, you SATs are very good. However, the fact that you are an international applying for aid will make it rather tough. Oh, and the ECs are great. :D

U Chicago—High Match
Columbia— Mid-low reach
Georgetown---- Low reach/High Match
Cornell----- Low Reach
Tufts----High Match

HYPS—Mid reaches

However, I am never good with international stuff, so I am not the best person to judge. :P

Just take care of your essays…

What do you mean, omega007? Like, if I do well on my essays, I have a good shot?

yeah sure…essays have a great impact on your application.

Chicago - high match/low reach
Columbia - same
Georgetown - match
Cornell - same as first 2
Tufts - match
Brandeis - low match

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/742668-chance-me-cornell-ed-others-i-chance-back-crazy-recs.html</a></p>

U Chicago-good shot
Columbia-reach for everyone
Georgetown-good shot, but plent of 2300s get turned away
Cornell-match
Tufts-match, but to be homest after visiting here, i wasnt interested
Brandeis-match/in

Columbia - Reach
Georgetown - Match/Low Reach
Cornell - Lower Reach than Columbia, however I have seen them turn down really good students
Tufts -Match
Brandeis -Match

Good luck!
