Now you’re stereotyping all illegal immigrants to be those who crossed the border and do not adapt themselves to this nation and its culture.

And how are they “devaluing what it means to be American”? Because they are willing to scrub toilets for minimum wage? What about those soldiers who commit crimes against humanity in the Middle East? Do they not devalue what what it means to be American? Why do we not persecute them then, and throw them out?

What it means to be an American?! To be an American is to be an immigrant and work hard. That is EXACTLY what these people are doing. They just want a better life for them and their families- that is EXACTLY what it means to be an American.

Yes- which is exactly why WE SHOULD GIVE THEM THAT CHANCE. What aren’t you getting about that? They WANT to be American citizens. They WANT to take that oath.

You are still ignoring my other questions:
And this still doesn’t address the other issue. The reason that illegals are welcomed here (and they are, especially by cooperations) is because it is CHEAP labor. It is the reason many of our prices are so low. For better or worse, this country THRIVES on cheap labor, and that is not available with an American work force.

Also- why are all the conservatives on Obama’s back? They were fine with Bush just kicking out the illegals and trying to put up a stupid fence. However, now they’re complaining about Obama not doing enough. Deportation is up something like 10-20% under Obama. HOWEVER, Obama is also cracking down on businesses who hire illegal immigrants- something Bush really did. So why do you think that conservatives are REALLY mad at Obama? Because he’s exposing the dirty little secret of what America runs on.

When you can answer those, I will continue this discussion.

They are devaluing what it means to be American because they did not go the legal pathway. You do not become “American” by running across a border illegally and staying somewhere. You become an American by first asking to be let in, waiting for approval, and going through the whole citizenship process to learn the country’s history, learn about the government, and most importantly, learn about our freedoms and how we must cherish and protect them. To become an American means still preserving your culture, but understanding that America is your primary country of allegiance, and that you have a duty to participate in the democratic process and to preserve it for future generations.

It is a privilege to be allowed into this country and become an American; no one is entitled to it.

As I said, impatience is not an excuse. No one is entitled to become an American; it is a privilege and honor. Sometimes, it involves waiting a bit.

And why can we not have cheap but legal immigrants?

What Bush and Obama were/are up to really isn’t the central issue.

No one wants illegal immigrants. But as it stands, there is NO WAY for them [ the ones who are already here ] to BE legal, even if they want to and ARE WILLING to wait. That’s why I’m asking you if you have any idea at all about the immigration process.

^People can really be ****ing racist sometimes. I can’t believe that he considers decisions made out of desperation for one’s survival are “greedy”. That’s absolutely disgusting.

I do have an idea about how the legal immigration process works. As for the illegal one, I can’t say I know too much, but I know it often involves crossing an insecure fence, often involving drug smuggling somehow.

So what should we do about them? Just round them up and ship them out of here? Do you realize the losses that this nation would incur through that process?

You just HAD to include drug smuggling, huh?

I detest the stupid drug smuggling comment. I wonder why it is difficult for mainstream America to believe that not all illegal immigrants come here through drug smuggling and in fact not all illegal immigrants are even Mexican.
