Illegal Mexicans

Down the street from me is this older white man. He recently bought the house. It wasn't in good condition. About a few days later, I see a ton of mexicans. Repairing the house in such, and sometimes just sitting outside playing football or w/e. And from this point on, they now live with him. I'm guessing they work for him, and in return he provides them with housing and food. I notice none of the cars have license plates. Do you call the police and let them know? Or should I just let it go?

if you want to be mean, call the police. if they cause trouble, call the police. but if they're just chillin and not doin anything bad, leave them alone. if they were all asian and you suspected they were illegal, would you still consider calling the police?

i say let it go. you don't know for sure they are illegal, and they're probably just trying to make a living.

This happens all the time. When I was in southern Florida, I'd see dozens of Mexicans hanging out outside gas stations. My aunt, who lives there, told me that people come by with pickup trucks to hire them.

I wouldn't do anything unless the guy has a legitimate business and is hiring them illegally for it. But, if they do anything you think is wrong, or somehow threaten you in any way, then call the cops obviously.

kinglin, I would really just ignore it unless you see evidence of bad things happening.

Just like how it is anywhere else, you ever see something that looks like a crime happening, you call the cops.

Also, he could be renting out part of the house to these folks for all you know.

Looks like everyone is telling you to leave the situation as is...I agree. Unless something actually happens then chill out.

If anything the Cubans need to be sent back. I live in Miami its just wrong how these people come here kinda the same way the Mexicans do and they get EVERYTHING!

...let it go...

I LOVE my illegal Mexican neighbors! I bumped into a guy's car once, and asked if we should just trade insurance info. He said "no, no, it just fine. just a little dent. No need to get cops involved." Haha. If he had been a WASP, he would have had his lawyer on the phone before I could speak.

^ ..........

Well then.

I figure if they're not hurting anyone, they're just doing the work that Americans wouldn't do anyway.

um, what? they get EVERYTHING? you mean they work and stuff? or they get enought money to buy a house? or they already have family here? it's not like the gov gives them anything. what exactly are you talking about?

Wait, so who are we hating now? The Irish?

Illegal Mexicans do take the jobs that we don’t want…………and lower US wages in the process. I wouldn’t be a janitor for minimum wage, but if the job was $20 an hour I might think about it.

current_student I am guessing you never heard of the wet foot dry foot policy.

Yes I agree with everyone leave the mexicans alone unless they are causing trouble.

nah, you guessed wrong. that's a given...and i lived in florida for 6 years. i'm just saying the government doesn't say, "here's citizenship and $40,000 and a house." they still have to work for what they want. but yes citizenship is better to have in doing that. anyway, why would you comment that they should go back when you just said mexicans should be left alone?

kenshi
Really think of reading about the history of South Florida before you bash Cubans.

You have no idea what South Florida was like before the Cubans came.

The politics are different in Cuban than in Mexico as well, a fair amount of Cubans would never go back to Cuba and then there are some who would if they could.

The Cubans built Miami into the city it is today. And, if you learn about what it was like before, you would be grateful for that.

One of the problems I have is the fact that they don't pay taxes. This may seem like nothing big to the economy but when you have tons of them not paying taxes, but still living in the US, there's a problem. If he/she doesn't have to pay taxes, why should I? Makes you wonder why a lot of american citizens don't even bother paying taxes.

I believe he is referring to the fact that if Cubans come here illegally, they're made citizens no questions asked due to Cuba's communist government. Mexicans, however, cannot claim political asylum.

Actually, many of them do. They use social security numbers of dead people, retired persons, and convicts. Still not good using other people's identity, but many do pay taxes.
