Was checkin in to see if that an in-state resident has a good shot of getting in with a low GPA and class rank but higher ACT score.

ACT: 33
GPA: 2.7
Class Rank: 100/195
My high school is top 25 in state so it is pretty competitive

My bro graduated a few years ago from illinois as a james scholar.

Any shot getting in?

(no my gpa does not show an upward trend in grades, mostly just a b average throughout with a bad freshman year)
(I also took honors courses in math and sciences because I plan on going into either engineering, business, or medical majors, maybe just DGS because I can't decide)

I shall be honest...your gpa pretty much cripples your chances of getting in, especially for business/engineering/(even division of general studies)...unless you have a HUGE mitigating factor for a 2.7 gpa...like a life-threatening illness...

okay so obviously im not someone from admissions, but i was admitted to uiuc 2012...

i disagree. i think you have a good shot.
a 33 gets people accepted into the engineering honors program.
i have a 33 also but a 4.45/3.56... which isnt that high at all.
dont give up!!! i think your chances are okay.

I really doubt you'll get in, but there is no harm in applying. Make sure you write a kickass essay, and explain any reason for why your GPA is so low.

Talk with an admissions officer before you read too much into your gradepoint. There are different perspectives on this issue. Colleges realize that there are major differences between expectation standards of high schools. That is why they also look closely at standardized test scores, as these scores give a country-wide standardized comparison of students' academic strengths and weaknesses. They also realize that students may have had a rough start to adapting to the expectations of high school. Your high ACT scores certainly indicate that you have the potential to do very well regardless of your high school grades. I'm not saying grades are not important and something that admissions won't look at, but other factors play into their decisions.

You won't know until you try, so GO FOR IT!

if you rank 100 out of 195 with a 2.7 gpa how can you consider your school competitive! you are doing better then almost half of your grade with a 2.7 i would say that is not competitive what so ever

You'll definitely get in and you may even get scholarship money for that ACT score. I'm a recent UIUC grad, but I remember stressing over this about 4 1/2 years ago. Don't let people discourage you if thats what you want.
