Illinois to get harder for residents; Parents outraged!!

So Berkeley has 11% OOS, UNC CH has <18% OOS, and Wm & Mary and UVa have >30% OOS. There is something definitely wrong with the priorities of these 2 Virginia schools. What about other top tier "flagship" state schools in other states? Are their OOS enrollments in the teens or do their IS students only make up 2/3?

and as far as their academic reputation, UVA is only big news in Va.

I disagree.

Now if UVa would stop getting some of our best administrators, I'd muchly appreciate it (although no one here in Ann Arbor has any trouble understanding the allure of C-ville). :)

Motherdear, Michigan has about a 2/3-1/3 ratio.

According to College Board the freshman class at our flagship U, Penn State, is 28% OOS. As the parent of a student who will be applying there, I appreciate the boost these students give the budget and the diversity they bring to the school. We were told that the incoming class at CU-Boulder will be more than 50% OOS. Again, as the parent of an applicant, I consider that a good thing.

Including Minn. kids, Wisconsin is about 32% OOS. Excluding Minn it is 22%. UW and UM have a deal to take each other's kids at instate tuition rates.

OOS students add great value to every school.

for comparison sake let's take a look at the schools mentioned

UMich at AA 25,000 students 57% ad rate 37% OOS

penn state at UP 33,000 students 62% ad rate 28% OOS

CU at Boulder 25,000 students 88% ad rate 37% OOS

Uof Illinois at UC 30,000 students 75% ad rate 11% OOS

now for Virginia's public schools

UVA 13,000 students 38% ad rate 29% OOS 1 campus

W&M 5,500 students 31% ad rate 33% OOS

VTech 21,000 students 72% ad rate 29% OOS

James Madison 15,000 students 68 ad rate 37% OOS

fairfax county has about 52,000 high school students as of 2006 and 68% of them will be competing with each other and OOS students for a seat at these 4 colleges
