ILR Guaranteed Transfer got a 2.8 gpa

help! I am a guaranteed transfer for Fall 2006...I got a 2.8 this past quarter (Fall Quarter '05) when I am suppose to be getting a 3.3 each term with no grades lower than a B (i got an A-, B-, and a C)....What should I do?? I have my heart set on ILR and I know I can get a 3.3 my next two quarters and I am fully capable of succeeding academically at Cornell

well obviously you need to get higer than 3.3 these next two marking periods to average out to a 3.3

Yes, however the agreement states I need to achieve a 3.3 each term, which i did not achieve Fall quarter.

Maybe you're screwed then.

that'd be really tough...

You need to write a letter to the ILR admissions staff explaining the situation (if there was an excuse). Sometimes, they might levy with you. But, i do know for a fact that they have rejected GT's who didnt meet the minimum gpa. They figure if you can't manage a B+ average at another college then you wont be able to handle the load that ILR gives its students (believe me, it's quite difficult). Good luck.

I may very well be screwed...I really do not have an excuse for my poor gpa...However the course I got a C in is a math course...and math is not one of the prerequisites for an ILR guaranteed transfer...would that aid my case at all? The A- was in writing and the B- was in history.

Well one of the ILR admissions reps told me that college level algebra or higher looks very good on the application..I don't know how that applies to GT (I'm an aspiring transfer)...but he made it seem like a B is mediocre at best. It's not a pre-req...but when they say 3.3...I guess thats what they mean...prereq or not. Take this with a grain of salt though because I'm no expert...I think you should just do what gomestar said..it's worth a shot

yeah might as will give it a shot....thanks for the help

this is what ILR admissions had to tell me, "Those students offered a GT who do not meet the stated criteria are considered by our admissions committee as regular transfer applicants."

vanillaice: can you tell us here(or pm me) on how you got a guaranteed transfer? do they offer it to u if you are on waitlist? also, do they offer it for engineering? thansk

You probably stand a really good chance as a transfer regular then...pending you do pull a 3.3 or higher these upcoming semesters.
