I definitely want to consider transferring into ILR my sophomore year. But where should I go next year--a school that is offering me money, or a school where I would be happy for four years?

My options are BU, Clark, or UVM with scholarships or Colby, Hamilton, or Wellesley. I'm a little concerned about BU because it's so big and I'm not sure I'd love the city environment. Wellesley would be a great match for me except I'm not sure how I would handle and an all-women school. Hamilton was my first choice until I got the GT offer...now I'm just confused and I'm not sure what I should do.

bu is known for grade deflation so i’d stay away from there. if hamilton was your first choice, then try it out. you get to leave after a year if you don’t like it anyway. or you could apply to other schools as a transfer after a year and keep the cornell GT in your hand as a back up.

10mwil, can you post up your decision letter? because i’m still trying to figure out whether i got straight out rejected or if i got a guaranteed transfer as well

twentyten: the part that i think is the transfer option is this: “Within the next few days you will receive notification from the undergraduate college to which youve applied that you are being offered a transfer option. Please contact the college directly if you have any questions.” of course, i could be getting a 2-year transfer option or maybe i misunderstood, but i think it’s the GT–at least i hope it is!

ironically: thank you for letting me know about BU–is there any more information on this or are there sources you could link me to?

UVM if you are looking to save money. Else any of the LACs would be fine. You might even like the LACs so much that you might not want to transfer (although we wouldn’t want that to happen!)

That’s part of the problem–I would love to go to ILR as it is the perfect program for me. But I just don’t know if I have the heart to go to a school for only one year and then just pick up and leave! These are confusing times…

yo i got the same thing in my letter “Within the next few days you will receive notification from the undergraduate college to which youve applied that you are being offered a transfer option. Please contact the college directly if you have any questions.”

i applied to CALS though so… no idea? im pretty sure its a GT… but the whole question is do u have to reapply? what is the GPA to maintain? etc???

i have also heard that some people get to transfer at spring ? so i guess either call or wait until contacted! but i guess for us its a 1/2 congrats lol

yup, to those of you wondering, GTs! congrats

and yeah. there are 1/2 year, 1 year, and 2 year GTs though some came in this spring with me after 1.5 years?? weird lol and it’s no grade lower than B and a 3.3 overall

A girl from my daughter’s high school got a GT few years back. She knew for sure she wanted to go to Cornell, so she ended up going to Rutgers. She may even have commuted, but certainly did not have any emotional tie to the school. She did what she had to do - get good grades to transfer.

A friend’s son was offered GT to AEM 2 years ago. He decided to go to CMU for a year, but ended up loving the school. It was never discussed, but there may have been an issue where he didn’t get good enough grades in required courses to allow him to transfer. In his case, he made a good choice in picking a school he could stay for 4 years if he didn’t take up Cornell’s GT offer.

IF you know for sure you want to transfer, I would consider going with the cheapest school.

you say you were accepted as an incoming sophomore, or that’s what i would say

yeah, either pick a school where you don’t mind staying in case things go wrong or go to your cheapest option knowing that you need to get those high grades

“Yeah I’m pretty confused about whether to say I’ve been rejected or accepted haha…trying to explain it is hard.”

hahaha to that comment. I’m going through the same thing. My friends joke about how I should write down and memorize a concise way to explain the situation.

Haha not a bad idea. The letters says we are accepted for Fall 2011, so I guess that’s the appropriate thing to say. There’s actually a group for GTs on facebook–“Got Accepted Into Cornell…A Year from Now” hahah

Hey all, I just received my Cornell guaranteed transfer packet from the Cornell ILR school in the mail yesterday. Are there any other ILR [GT] students out there? Only one of my other friends was offered the [GT] option at ILR but he’s also a Robertson scholar for unc-chapel hill and will probably end up going there instead. I am debating whether to choose this option, I was so set on attending Berkeley for the next four years because I thought I was rejected but when I received the big white packet yesterday my options changed. For all you GT students, what do you think you guys will do? There are pros/cons to transferring and for me if I do transfer it would be freshmen yr at Berkeley and then transfer into ILR for fall 2011.

Also, its good that the [gt] option is non binding. Someone should create an official Cornell 2014 guaranteed transfer group on fb, the one right now is kind of a joke.

Hey, for all you ccers that were admitted as a guaranteed transfer to the Cornell class of 2014, join the facebook group: Cornell University Guaranteed Transfer 2014
