Im a Bio major & I failed general chemistry with a D. Are my chances ruined of transferring to a UC?

Let me give you guys/gals the whole picture: I’m a community college Biology major with goals to become a doctor and I have a UC-transferrable GPA of 3.24 currently and have gotten one F and one D (retook both and got Bs) and gotten two Cs during my time at community college. The rest have been As and Bs, more Bs than As though. I still have a lot of courses to go before transfer and if all goes well I should have at least a 3.55 GPA at the end of Spring 2016.

The F I got was in introductory chemistry during summer semester because I was dealing with tough times at home and having to drive a lot from home and school (I lived 70 miles away). I retook the class the next semester and got a borderline B (almost an A). But the good thing is it was not considered a major preparation course.

But just last semester I took general chemistry (a major preparation course) and received a borderline D (almost a C, literally a 69.9%) as I was working full time and going to school full time (I quit my job after my second failed chemistry exam but it was too late) I retook the class during summer a couple weeks ago and received a B.

Now I am applying for TAG at UCSB as a Biological Sciences Major for Fall 2016 and I read their requirements for transfer and I meet the requirements except for one and now I’m freaking out:

All Biological Science Applicants Must:
Complete a one-year sequence of general chemistry with laboratory with no individual grade lower than “C.”

Does this mean if I got a D in general chemistry and retook it that the higher grade won’t matter? Does this mean I have to change my major? Is there any chance of me being able to explain why I received this grade?

Please don’t be rude and give me real tangible advice and guidance. If you are not sure please do not answer. Thank you!

I think you’ll have a tough time getting in with the D. Re-take the course to improve your chances.

Hope that wasn’t too rude.
