Do I have to take it? The email states that I have to register for it before June 30th. What is it even? When I try to click the “register now” it won’t let me because it’s not a hyperlink.
CPP has a process that directs you to the appropriate math class given how good you are in math. The MDTP is a 45 question test, mostly algebra, geometry and trig. Sample test questions are on-line, just use google. It is pretty straight-forward stuff. Contact CPP if you are having trouble registering for it. They can help you. I missed my MDTP date in June, but me and about 30 other new students took it at CPP Freshman Orientation on July 10th. My score allowed me into a decent calculus-level class.
how did you take it during orientation? did you just leave, or did you informed them that you needed to take the MDTP? Also, does the orientation still count if you leave it to take the MDTP?
I’m a transfer student too and also confused by the MDTP and if I had to take it. For my major I need to take MAT 120 (Calculus for life science) and the prereq for it is MAT 105, but I took a math analysis series at my CCC that counts as transfer credit for 105 according to assist.org. After I got the email I read somewhere online not to worry about it if it wasn’t on my “to do” list on MyCPP, it wasn’t so I ignored the emails. Then the day of the registration deadline I saw that it popped up on my to do list but I couldn’t register in time, probably would’ve bombed the test anyway since I didn’t prepare for it at all (last took a math class a few years ago so I’m rusty)
@CPPNinja during orientation they have a time in the itinerary to take the exam. I personally didn’t take the exam, but other students did get called up to take it at the appropriate time
@futureSLOgrad did you have an idea why you didn’t have to take the MDTP? Did your CC math classes transfer over or is it that your major didn’t require certain math classes?
I took up to Calculus 2. The mdtp is for precalculus, algebra, and stats i believe
Okay, so I just opened up my guidebook that I recieved at the orientation it says: all students entering the csu system must take the entry level math test (elm) and then it has some exemptions. For the MDPT it days its for courses the student is hoping to place into -precalculus, and math analysis. I’m above those math courses which is why I don’t have to take it
Cool, thanks for the info. I took math analysis at CC and thought that was enough to place me into calc but maybe not.
