I'm an Asian Female Going to Cal Poly

I know Cal Poly is 66% Caucasian and 11% Asian/Pacific Islander (according to the college board), just wondering, is it rare to see asian people on campus? I currently go to a super diverse high school and I guess it would feel strange for me to be a minority.

I have visited the campus and town numerous times to spend the weekend with one of my good friends and from what I have seen in the town, at parties, in the dorms and other campus housing, those figures seem pretty accurate. I dont know how you mesh with people who dont share your race so I cant say how you would like it but like most universities, Cal Poly has clubs, organizations and even a sorority (chi delta theta) for the Asian population so there is definitely a place for you at their school.

If you attend a “super diverse” high school doesn’t that mean its made up of a bunch of minorities with you being a member of one of them? Also, I guess what matters most is the make up of your class and that you can’t know until school begins. FWIW, there at least a dozen students going to Cal Poly next year from my son’s class representing just about every ethnicity. As I think about it, he just might be the token Caucasian
Relax. You will love the school.

it’s ok. I’m an asian female going to SLO. I was really scared at first for being a minority since I’ve always been part of the majority for my whole life. But I think change is good and it’ll be a good experience :)

im an asian male going to SLO and I have NO FEAR =]

I’m also an asian male! woo slo!

"im an asian male going to SLO and I have NO FEAR =] "

SAME BUT WITH FEAR

11 percent sounds pretty sweet to me! The list of schools with 11 percent African Americans is pretty short!

Which major? A guy tour guide (engg) seemed to talk about females in a derogatory way. I don’t know if he reflects the general population. If he does, you may have double whammy. However, I may be completely wrong here. Just poke around on this part.

asian male with a distinct possibility of going to cal poly slo… with no fear- I’ve had plenty of white friends.

I currently have 2 and a quarter.

I’m an Asian male too! Hurrah!

Hi, I’m an asian girl, and going to SLO too. Are you guys applying on-campus housing?

cooool, i’m not the only asian :)

We went to Cal Poly this week and saw only a handful of non-whites in our time on campus

My daughter has been accepted and is considering the school, but is concerned about the environment for Asians on campus

Any Asian females currently @ Cal Poly SLO who can provide insight?

oooh i’m an asian female coming fall 2009 too!

I guess that way I , as an asian female make improvement to my english. Cos I lived in LA and always with chinese people and I really would like to interact with someone who don’t know my language. My professor always pushing me to get out of my little world but we are convenient to talk in chinese and make chinese friends more rather than real american. So, I felt like US is also china. Ha ha… This will be a good idea to try new thing.
