I'm an international student, but should I still fill out the FAFSA?

I am aware that international students cannot receive money after filling out the FAFSA but should I still fill it out and send it to schools? (None of my schools REQUIRE it from international students)

I forgot where I read this (It was on one of the posts from this forum) but I recall that a user stated that some international students should just fill out the FAFSA so that schools are aware of the students financial needs.

This course of action is also suggested by this website, (http://www.edupass.org/finaid/fafsa.phtml), “Even though the FAFSA will still be rejected, according to a contact at the US Department of Education, the data is still there and can be drawn down by the financial aid office and used to make institutional awards”.

So should I just fill the FAFSA out and send it? Or should I not?
Won’t informing the school of my needs, make them a bit more reluctant to accept me?

If your colleges don’t require this…don’t do it. You are not eligible for U.S. funded need based aid. If your schools don’t need the FAFSA…then they have other required submissions for determining need based aid at their schools for international students.

okay, thank you!

You don’t have a Social Security number, so I don’t see how you could even fill out the FAFSA even if you wanted to.

US tax dollars pay for federal grants and federal scholarships. It seems to me that if you want to express your need, you should-to your own country and to the tax payers of your own country. That would let your country know there is a need for them to support education in your country by your government and by the people in your country who pay taxes…
