I'm applying Early Decision. Big mistake?

DReicht,

I emailed Laura Villafranca (an Admissions Officer at Rice), and she told me that Rice does meet 100% of demonstrated need. Rice also gives grants based on merit. She said it is true that Rice gives less grant money to the Early Decision applicants, but that is only because there are a lot less Early Decision applicants than Regular Decision applicants.

I think this is something you should discuss with your parents, but I personally believe a Rice education is an investment, and it will pay off. I am willing to take out a few loans if it means I will have a great job with excellent pay in the future. Of course, I know it's not that easy/simpley, but that's just my opinion. I suggest you contact Rice's Financial Aid department with your question.

Good luck!

I'm actually contacting their admissions office now. Thanks for asking though :-)

Pedrossi,
I agree with anxiousmom. It doesn't sound like you're quite ready to apply ED. Also, remember what demonstrated need means. Your idea of what you think you can pay and Rice's idea of what you think you can pay might be very different.

I'm ready to apply to Rice ED. :)
