I'm applying to James Madison University to study finance. Can anybody give me some information about this college??

I don’t know much about colleges generally, I myself ask people for help very often.

The only thing I know about this university is that it is ranked 35th in Business Week's ranking which seems more logical to me than the US news ranking.

My friend (we are also internationals :) ) was accepted few days ago. They gave her full scholarship. Also I know that JMU has nice campus and location.

really???full scholarship!?how did he/she get it??really thanks for your help.
I just picked up this college from the Business week's ranking haha.

JMU can be very clique-oriented, for girls. don't know how it is for guys, but i'd assume, better. kind of isolated...i hear it's near an awful smelling chicken farm! :)

clique-oriented?!
so how are the courses??is it a good university for studying business?

Well, desmond, it really depends on how you define "good". If you want an education, none in the world will provide you with any. If you're looking for placement and bling bling is all you care, JMU might not be your final destination.

If you study finance, I recommand you do something in math, statistics, economics or engineering. These people are the one that will land those 100k jobs in higher finance (financial engineering and the likes) because of their quantitative skills. Don't trust me? Ask Uchicago, Princeton, Stanford and many others why they offer programs in Master in Finance only designed for people who has done at least 2 years of mathematics and quant related subjects.

Ya, no business majors in a finance program, suprise!

Desmond2007. Yes she got full scholarship. I can tell you her stats so you can compare them to yours.

Her GPA is 3.5 or 3.6 (If I remember correctly)
SAT 1920
I know that she had great rec's don't know about essay or EC's but I think they should also be fine.

“it a good university for studying business” as I already said I’m not an expert in colleges at all, but still I think there are better universities ranked lower in business week’s ranking, for example Northeastern, Syracuse and some others too. But I may be wrong.

I can tell you that it is a beautiful campus in a a beautiful area, but not for everyone. It is removed from any real urban areas, so if you need the stimulation of a city you will not find that there. If you enjoy hiking, beautiful mountain vistas, and a more rural campus you may like it.
The business school does have a decent rep and a lot of people really enjoy their time there. Do some research on the general area though to see if that is what you are looking for. Good luck.
I may be wrong, but I believe Rockingham County is the turkey capital of the US - that would account for that chicken farm odor mentioned before. LOL
I graduated from JMU many years ago and don't really remember the odor actually reaching campus.

to DOLO2:Oh,i don't have a SAT score. My GPA is about 3.5 and my TOEFL ibt score is 92.
to abcboy70 :Actually in my opinion,i think a good university is one which has a good reputation, good professors and a good campus to live and study.Besides, the graduate certificate can give me a good job.I'm a guy who really want to study in the university, so i always worried about that the university does not have good teachers.

You should prob get in

Do you mean it is valuable to study there by saying"You should prob get in"???
