I'm a senior who is in the process of applying to the University of California. I will be taking the ACT Plus Writing exam next month. What if I don't like how well I do on the exam? The application deadline for the semester for which I am applying is in the same month, so as far as I know, I have two options: report the scores I receive, or delay the application process and either retake the ACT or the SAT.

As far as I know, for UC’s due date is Nov. 30. As such, you may not have that option to delay the application process.

There is no choice to delay the application process. Your application is due on November 30 and if it is not submitted by then there are plenty of other peoples who will be.

The UC application deadline is Nov 30. It does, however, accept the December SAT or ACT tests. However, particularly for the ACT, you are supposed to order it sent as part of your test application by listing a UC as one to automatically receive scores upon release, and thus send it blind, which results in the fastest form of delivery and gets it there before mid-Jan so you can be considered. You cannot delay beyond then because any tests taken after December will be too late.

I don’t get why students wouldn’t submit all of their test scores. I don’t know of any college that looks at your lowest test scores. And if they did, and decided you were not a good fit therefore, they are looking out for the applicant’s interests that the school is too tough for the applicant.
