I'm back...with an agenda this time! (USC!)

Well, I don't know if any of you remember me, but I applied to USC (being my dream school for years) and got rejected. I also appealed their decision and got rejected once more...that really sent me down into a state of depression, if you will...but I'm back now!

I'm at a community college (Glendale) and am currently taking 16 units. I'm planning on doing a one-year transfer to USC (be a USC student as a sophomore in college :):):)!!!). My classes are as follows:

Anthropology 102- A
Sociology 101- A+
English 101- A+
Art 101- A
Geography 101- A
Geography 111 (LAB)- A

So technically, I have A's in all my classes. I'm really involved at school, helping to tutor some kids, helping the technology department with setting up campus-wide networks and such, and also am in a club that talks only about college and our future plans. I do tutoring outside of school, too, at a local church organization. I've been playing sports for a long time, and now play tennis and basketball.

So far, that is what I have compiled in 5 minutes. I have a full resume' coming up soon (which I will definitely post for you guys) and I am going to start working on my application this coming week. (due Feb. 2nd.) AND I've already been interviewed.

What do you guys think so far? What should I be doing at this point? Does anyone have any links, articles, or books they can recommend about essay writing? I understand that is a key to admissions, and I want to really nail my essay this time.

ANY and ALL comments, suggestions, and posts will be fully appreciated! As I said, this year, I am planning to get my life back onto track and GET INTO USC!

Thanks all!

///Chris

First off, great attitude! I probably would have been slightly bitter if that had happened to me. Second, it seems like you're doing a great job. Your grades can't get any better, and you definitely seem to be active ec-wise.

As far as the essay, there is a featured discussion at the top of the college admissions forum that says "Essay advice from UVa" that you might look at.

You don't really need advice because you have done the right thing with the right spirit. My only advice is to stay very positive and go for your goal with clear intentions and without any rancor. Positive energy is always attractive. Have you talked personally with any successful transfers? I might ask to meet one if I were you to chat them up a bit and make sure you have the right perspective on the local scene.
Also, consider finding another Match School and opening your mind to another happy path in case other barriers are put up.
you are doing great...happy outcomes...

Thanks guys...I really appreciate it! Hopefully I'm on the right track, but I KIND of feel my EC's are lacking (even though this is my 2nd application in less than a year...:))...is there anything else I can start doing or add that will strengthen my application even more?

bump anyone?

Chris, I remember your posts. You really changed your attitude and I am impressed with your grades. I will see you at USC next year!!

Hey Sirwatson! Yea I remember you, too. Hopefully this will happen this year. I don't think I will be complete until I get accepted. Watson, any ideas what I can do to improve my chances even more? Should I talk to anyone else inside the school? Anything?

from what I've read on cc, the essay for transfers has to be more why 'me' and this school is such a perfect fit. Have you spoken with their transfer coordinator? I understand that transfer apps are processed somewhat differently at many schools, so you might want to check that out.

Good luck.

Thank you, bluebayou, I shall call them on Monday and see what they say. I'm interested in going into Dentistry (Dental Hygiene major)...should I consider talking to the head of the Dental school maybe?

Chris, make as many SC contacts as you can. It can only help you. Remember, we love SC and those who love SC.
