Right now, I work a tutoring job at Kumon about 8-12 hours a week.
I'm president of the recycling / humanitarian club at my school, 2 years (adopted a house for habitat for humanity also)
I'm founder and president of my school's Gay Straight Alliance, 2 years, raised money for local LGBT homeless youth shelter
I've been a member of Young Democrats for 3 years, president for 1 and historian for another year.
I'm the Vice President of my school district's pilot team for a new district initiative that is in charge of making all energy conservation policies for my school and for the district overall. Changes we've made have saved the district about 1.25 million so far (2 years)
Volunteer hours are about 150, many at the downtown shelter for homeless Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender youth
Member of Science National Honor Society 1 year
Member of National Honor Society 1 year
Member of our school's Peer to Peer tutoring program 2 years
French Club Vice President for 1 year, member for 2 years
Member of Spelling and Vocabulary UIL team (placed at regionals for individual)

I'm considering establishing an English National Honor Society at my school (I want to major in English)
Should I do this or should I establish a Feminist club? I can't decide between the two and I don't know which one would best support my app for Rice.

Do what you are more passionate about.

I feel like my GSA already pretty much does what the Feminist club would do. We call ours the Gender Sexuality Alliance. I feel like I should do the ENHS.

Shoot for the feminist club, and talk about your contribution to underrepresented individuals and how it has changed your life. However, creating a club just to contribute to your ECs, is selfish. If you are going to start the club, start the club because you really do want to represent the underrepresented people - focus club goals on changing the way women are regarded in society. Also, consider your opportunity costs - what can contribute more to society beside awareness is work - so think about doing community service projects - you could recycle/ask for donations (and donate the money earned from recycling/donations to the homeless shelter you work for)

Wouldn’t it be better to mix Feminist stuff into my Gender Sexuality Alliance and then also make the ENHS

We recycle at my school every friday without fail, and we make no profit off of it. I want to create a club because I want to create it. I’m LGBT so I actually do care about these causes. We’ve done many community projects as a GSA for homeless LGBT youth.

I think you have created/joined several clubs. An EC that may stand out is writing about the portrayal of women or lgbt on the news. There are recent developments every day about a public figure making statments - i believe the last one was trying to strip down gay marriage for potential fraud for health benefits. There have also been several legal battles between states and the federal government. If you take time to write about the misunderstanding of gay rights portrayed in the media and get it published by a local newspaper. I am sure you can make contacts for college, and add to your list of accomplishments.

I have a friend who writes for the Houston Press. You think getting published in there is a good idea?
