Hello,

I'm an international student applying to 7 colleges in the US. My problem is I'm broke, and my family can't afford paying anything anymore. The only payment I have left to do is the application fees. I asked for a fee waiver on the commonApp, and I need you guys to tell me if that's going to work. I can get a letter from my counselor, signed and confirming my need for my money (which I'm not shy about since I'm already applying for financial aid).

I've always wanted to apply for MIT too. Do you think that'll work ? They don't use commonApp, and so I don't know how I'm going to ask for it. What do you think I should do ? I only have about 7 days left for my deadlines.

Thank you.

Don’t worry about it. All colleges have fee waivers and financial aid for a reason! Fill out all of the paperwork, and make sure that you let them know the situation that your family’s in. They’ll see that and will grant you everything you need. These things were made for students like you! Good luck!

If your family has no resources, as an international student, you will need a plan on how to pay. You absolutely cannot count on the universities picking up the tab. In fact, as an international, you are likely to get even less help. The above poster’s comment that you will be granted everything you need is patently false.
