I'm confused about the signed tax returns.

This same Profile is the one folks will be completing in February.

You will have to use the descriptor to figure out what line they mean. Actually, you may find that the lines are what is on the 2013 return, and you will just need to modify the amount to reflect 2014 monies.

You’re applying EA/ED to schools NOW. 2014 tax returns won’t be completed and submitted until January 2015 at the earliest. When it asks for 2014 tax information, even when it references specific lines of the tax form, you must use ESTIMATES when applying now EA/ED. The schools that you are applying to EA/ED may ask for the actual 2014 tax information when it becomes available. If you end up applying to any schools RD next year, you will not need to estimate your 2014 tax information, because 2014 taxes should be completed at that point.

Okay so I am filling out the right one…That’s good.
Okay, so about the tax returns. I should just scan or copy the federal tax returns right?
Sorry guy, just making sure…I do this right.

Personally, I wouldn’t email them since they contain social security numbers. I would copy, sign, date and mail them allowing enough time for them to get there by any deadlines. They will need extra postage.

Alright thanks. Do you think it would be on time to mail them by this Friday? Also I emailed Collegeboard about tax returns and it seems like I’m doing CSS profile for priority filing date (normally I should be filling it later?) so it’s normal that I don’t have the 2014 tax returns right?

I don’t know the deadlines for each school so I don’t know if Friday would be ok. If the deadlines are Nov. 1, then Friday will be in plenty of time.

What collegeboard told you in the email is what we’ve been trying to tell you since the beginning of this thread.

Oh okay
Sorry I just didn’t understand.
Yes the deadlines are November 1st, but I think a few days late is fine. So they should arrive in time if I send them Friday right? And it’s just the federal tax returns?

If you are given a deadline, turning in something a few days late is never a good idea.

Are you applying Early Action or Early Decision? If not, why are you doing the Profile now?

I am applying ED/EA.
Is Friday a good time to mail the federal tax returns?
Also, there are a couple things I can’t fill out on the CSS profile, are they okay to leave blank?
Thanks,

What can’t you fill out on the Profile? Usually it is NOT allowable to leave blanks.

For example, number of years at current place of employment for my father since he’s unemployed, and I’m not sure about my mother since she changes jobs a lot, so it would be technically 0 years. Also, I’m confused about a property under my father’s name. The government owns it but he has residential rights, so he cannot sell the property but it is technically his. For that, the market value would be 0 I guess and it was never purchased, just passed down to my dad.

Also then, according to court order, when will support for the student end? (MMYYYY), my parents remarried back in our native country so there’s no information for that.

You can always put ‘N/A’ if there is no information or the question doesn’t apply to you - if father is unemployed, then the answer is 0 or N/A. If your father has a Life Estate in property, it still has some value, just not resale value. What does the question ask - if it asks if he OWNS property, the answer is no. If asks if he has use of property, then he does. If it is ‘in his name’ the deeds filed state his ownership interest.

You are making this all way more complicated than it is. Just answer the questions asked.

Alright. Sometimes N/A isn’t allowed but yeah I’ll do my best. So I should turn it in when I’m done right?

Alright so I put the exact same info for 2013 income and 2014 income.
Gonna submit.

Are they going to ask for proof for the explanation section?

Ok so on the NCP, it asks for relationship to student…and the only two choices are stepmother and stepfather…

They may or may not ask for proof for the special circumstance section. But you should send them the proof if you have.

Okay
Can you help me on the NCP?

It’s the same thing if your parents are both employed - you put 0 for years unemployed, and so on. (even if like in my family, both parents have been unemployed off and on, but both are working now)

And the individual schools tell you when they need what, specifically, their FA office says when they need what.

I think there are two days between the ED deadline and the day the forms need to be faxed to the FA office for my son’s ED school. YMMV.
