I'm confused about the signed tax returns.

I'm applying EA/ED to several schools. They need signed copies of my mom's 2013 tax returns to send them via email or mail. What do they mean by signed? And also, when do I send them? Now?

Make copies and have your mom sign her name on them. If the copy doesn’t have a signature from the original filing she can sign them there. If there’s a copied signature in that space already, she can sign them in an open area near there or at the bottom.

Ok and then what? When do I send them if my due date is the beginning of next month?

Send them so they get there before the deadline.

Email each place and ask them. Don’t be surprised if each place tells you something different. That is OK. Just do whatever A asks for A, and whatever B asks for B.

Okay. So I have to scan each page of the tax return onto my computer?

Each school should have the deadlines for that school on their finaid website.

Yeah I can find the deadlines fine.

When your mom signs those returns, she needs to date them as of the date she FILED her 2013 return…not today!

Where does she sign it again?

See http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf</a> The bottom of page 2 where labels as “SIGN HERE”

Look at post #1 again. The posts don’t disappear from the forum.

I wouldn’t do it that way, Thumper. For the purpose of the schools she’s attesting as of the date she signs them that they are accurate.

Amending to say, that’s if there’s already a copied signature on the return and she’s doing an original signature elsewhere on the form.

I see. So just name and date? Also, the last page has this annual reconciliation of 2013 employee earnings tax, should I include that too?

Only send the IRS forms that were sent or transmitted to the IRS as part of the return. I don’t recognize that form by name, is it part of a state or local income tax return? The schools are likely only asking for the federal return.

Yes it’s the city income tax return. I guess just the page starting with the big 1040 on the top left corner What about Paid Preparer’s Earned Income Credit Checklist? There’s also a few pages of PA (the state we live in) Schedule w-25? (Don’t submit that I think.)

The front side of all the forms that constitute the federal return should say “Department of the Treasury-Internal Revenue Service” at the top. Don’t include the Paid Preparer’s checklist. Unless that school specifically asks for it I wouldn’t include any State Tax return pages.

Ok, correcting about the checklist. It appears to be form 8867 and you should include it as it is filed with the return.

That would be only like 5 pages, is that right?

Could be. Is the main page a 1040, or is it a 1040A? What are the other form numbers? Did you see my edit about form 8867?

Oh including 8867 would be 9 pages total. Also, on the CSS profile or FAFSA or whatever, my mom cannot put an employer name because she changes job a lot…and earns cash, is it okay to leave it empty?

hello?
