i'm confused- which psychology do i apply for?

i'm planning to major in neuroscience and/or (social) psychology.

i researched and found out that there were LSA and CoE but i'm not sure what the differences are (other than that LSA is easier to get in and that it focuses more on arts than CoE). If LSA is easier, why do people apply for CoE? does it look better on your graduate school application?

what is ross preferred admission? i heard that it's only for business. does psychology have a similar "Honors" type of ba/bs degree?

i hear that both ba and bs for psychology are offered, but bs is deemed a little better because it is more specialized. then why do people take ba? is it for people who aren't going to stick to psychology in their future degrees/careeres? then why are they majoring in psychology? if i were to get a master's degree in psychology as well, would the schools favor ba or bs? (also, is getting bachelor's and master's degree on the same subject [psychology].. weird..?)

anyway, back to the point. i guess what im trying to ask is, what is the highest level of program i can take to major in psychology? i want to attend umichigan because it is renowned for its psychology program, hoping that doing well in it would get me into a good graduate school, but i'm afraid to figure out later that the 'good' psychology program in UM is only available in the honors program of some sort that i am not applied for/attending at that time.

can you help me out, assuming (or i really hope, rather hahaha) that i WOULD get into any program? thank you so much! :)

CoE = college of engineering
LSA = literature, science, and arts
don’t worry about pre-admit for ross, as that’s solely for the business school

if you’re interested in neuroscience/psychology you want to apply to LSA, which has a formal honors program

idk about the importance of the ba/bs distinction, so I can’t comment on that

The differences between LSA and CoE are in the names themselves. The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is the liberal arts college where (you guessed it) you can study the humanities, the sciences, and the social sciences.

The College of Engineering is for people who want to study Engineering. It’s as simple as that. Now using a bit of deductive reasoning I’m going to assume that since Psychology is not a field of Engineering, you cannot major in Psychology in CoE.

At Michigan the only difference between a B.S. and an A.B. is the number of courses that one takes with the B.S. designation. Everyone starts off on the track to graduate with an A.B. but if you take 60 credits of classes with the B.S. designation you get a B.S. Perhaps in other schools a B.S. signifies a more specialized track, at Michigan this not always the case. At Michigan it usually indicates a higher level of quantitative course work.

Also note that major does not necessarily indicate future career path. Most psychology majors don’t pursue graduate studies in psychology or work in the field of psychology.
