In The Fiske Guide to Colleges (2003) it says Rice University tuition is less than $17,000, but on the Rice website it says tuition is $26,500. Did tuition really jump THAT much in 4 years?

the tuition for 2003 was 21,000 not 17,000....it might not be including other fees...or something....but from 2003 to 2007 it has jumped 7,000 but it still is "cheaper" than other private schools.

Matriculants Start 2007 $28,400.00
Matriculants Start 2006 $27,930.00
Matriculants Start 2005 $25,930.00
Matriculants Start 2004 $24,270.00
Matriculants Start 2003 $21,500.00

Also, your tuition is the same all 4 years. If it is $28.4k your freshman year, it is $28.4k your senior year. With tuition rate increases at other schools vastly outpacing the inflation rate, Rice is a bigger bargain.

Yes, the tuition at many of its peer institutions is $34,,000 - $37,000 for incoming freshman.

Is that true? I couldn't find reference to it on Rice's website. Is it in writing somewhere?

When i discussed the tuition increase this year for incoming freshman with the school they told me the increase was less for current students, not that it did not increase. Like 7% for new students but only 5% for current students. We were trying to figure out increase impact on scholarships and had been alarmed at this year's increase.
Last year's web site:
Matriculants Start 2006 $26,500.00

Matriculants Start 2005 $24,600.00

This year's web site:

Matriculants Start 2006 $27,930.00

And it has gone up that much. The web site http://www.students.rice.edu/students/2007-2008_Tuition__Fees.asp?SnID=1157172226

Has all the archived tuition rates and this was the one for 2003-2004. so a guide published in 2003 probably had 2002-2003 info and it would have been less than $17,000 given the information below represented the increase.

Matriculants Start 2003 $18,850.00
Matriculants Start 2002 $17,950.00
