I'm deferred; now what?

Broken hearts. :( There's been lots of those this past week. Colleges are brutal.

Guys, I don't know what to say.

There will always be people that love you!

And, um. Stay strong!

I expect to join you guys shortly, waiting for Friday.

I feel even worse because everyone in my class knows i applied EA.
and this other girl in my class applied too, and i'm pretty sure she got in, but I didn't

And I feel like the failure in my family,
my brother and my father went to MIT
my sister went to Yale
and me? community college?

oh well..

Yea it does feel like we are the only ones who did not get in. Its like when your picking teams to play sports, then when its your turn the teams all have enough people! OH THE NERDENESS OF MY ANALOGY! (lol no not from personal experience, just a randon thought)

The only form is the midterm grade one, but we can send extra info to them.
I got some NJ scholarship (Blousteen or something) which is basicaly if your in you schoools to 10% and have a 1260 SAT. I figure any of us would get that here, and espeicaly anyone going to MIT, so theres realy no point in telling them about that is there?

UncleFeezus got deferred? Wow. After reading your stats I thought you'd be accepted for sure. That's tough luck. Well, I was deferred too, though that was certainly predictable. Hopefully all of us can hang in there and make it for RD.

I also might as well ask about additional work and forms that we can fill out to try to increase our chances of making it in RD. What can we submit and how do we submit it? Thanks in advance for your help.

Well there are no forms for it, just send them a letter explaining what you got and if you need any suporting documents or something those too. Thats what I'm assuming. And again, get that midyear report sent when it is due!

Hmm, if I sent them a tape, would they listen to it?

Of course they would! And Iv'e been reading those articles that someone posted the link to, and here is a ganeral summery:
Talk to your college/guidance counselor and get them to call the school and pitch you as a student, or ask what you could do(if anything) that would push your case to them. (I'm gonna talk to mine tomorow)
Second thing to do is find out someone at the school(mabye the admsions officer for your area) and contact them and contacting them like 5 or 6 times total from now to decision.
Finaly win a state award or do something realy big(obviously)

And I read something that I should not put Who's who in my apps becuase it will look bad. Any oppinions on this?

No offense, but who's who is sent to EVERYONE; it means nothing. I'm sure you have other great qualifications- emphasize those.

Yea I know that, but I put it on the list for the hell of it. Yet there is an essay that says that it will HURT your app. if you put it down. So I'm asking if you think that I should just take it off.

I wouldn't put it down. I didn't.

Would you put awards like "AP Scholar" down? Because I'm sure everyone gets those too..

It can't hurt, but it can't help that much, either.

Whats "who's who???"

I was deferred, but I think I did really well on my DE final, so I'm happy.

breadpitt, I know what you mean - this girl who used to go to my school got in and she still has really good friends at my school so everyone's been saying congratulations to her and being happy for her. :( And the worst thing is, she's not the MIT type at all and she'll probably not even go there. How is it fair that she gets in and we, who have been obsessing over MIT for the past couple of months, get deferred?

4 more days until Friday. Deferral for sure... :(

To all of the applicants who have been deferred: DON'T WORRY!

I am currently a freshman at MIT, and was personally deferred during the application process last year. Initially, I admit, I was distressed; however, I sent in another recommendation and an "optional" essay, and received my "admit" letter in the mail the following spring.

If you'd like to discuss this further, please visit my MIT Blog at http://blogs.mit.edu/cappaert/ and contact me through there. I'm open to questions about anything, from admissions to fraternities to homework to financial aid (I work in the Fin Aid office, so I have PLENTY of info).

Thanks!

2 more days to deferral.
