I'm feel very disheartened. I am an English major and sophomore at Washington University. However, this semester, I'm taking a freshman writing composition class because WashU is strict with transfer students and writing requirement.

Anyways, although I've taken three college English classes before this one, my freshman classmates keep getting higher grades than me on the essay assignments. I don't know what to make of this. I don't want to sound pompous, but why are they doing better than me?

(I've just finished class, so I have a little free time to use on CC. )

Ha ha, very funny. But my instructor isn't exactly approachable. The wierd part is that I always take my papers to a writing tutor before submitting them.

So, something like this has never happened to you before?

If you're apprehensive about going up to him/her after class maybe you could email him/her and set up an appointment. I had a history professor who gave me a C on my first paper. He wasn't very approachable but I emailed him and we set up an appointment. I basically found out that he didn't like my normal form of writing so I adjusted things and got A's the rest of the semester.
