Oh no, Labor Day.
A business day in “early September” when I will have no hopes of receiving that darn email.
Still I’ll be on my gmail 24/7 as I have been since “late August.” ):

We still have tomorrow!
Are you sure its on gmail and not your UCSD email?

It does NOT save an original copy in UCSD email inbox (booh :/)

What’ll you guys do, I’m just curious, if the appeal doesn’t get accepted? Knock on wood.

I’m going to switch over to cal grant A. Currently i have a 14k parent plus loan so if i switch over to Cal Grant A, i’ll just need about a 3k loan. It’s still a lot, but much better than 14k.

@AndrewL,

That is exactly what I’m planning to do as well. Same amount of ridiculous loan… yeah.
I guess we can give up on today… ):

Why? Its barely 1. They dont get out until 4 :P

i dont understand, i thought cal grant b was better than cal grant a.

It was because UCSD made up the difference between Cal Grant B and Cal Grant A for our freshmen year with a UCSD grant. Since our things are late, we lose our UCSD grant, which would make Cal Grant A better

see you guys on this thread on Tuesday! ):

dosnt that mean that they will lower the UCSD grant if you get Cal Grant A? because, the blue and gold oppertunity plan only covers tuition fees, not housing. thats why i didnt bother to change my cal grant B to A.

Yeah, if you get cal grant A they lower your UCSD grant. The problem is we have no UCSD grant for them to lower :P

Ohhhh, i gotcha, then definately cal grant a would work for you guys. i hope everything goes according to plan man.

I don’t know if this is wishful thinking or not, but they should pretty much accept all our appeals, especially if our families have low income, right? I mean, reading all these posts basically tells me that more often than not, an appeal was accepted. Thoughts?

I don’t doubt that all of us will be able to cover almost all of the 13k+ loan. This will be possible through Cal Grant A (assuming that you were preliminarily awarded Cal Grant B, which is better in the long run).

As far as the appeals go, they don’t have much to “accept” them. From what I’ve seen around, all they do is change the Cal Grant from B to A (which, again, is our loss in the long run over 4 years).

True, getting UCSD Grant + Work Study with Cal Grant B would have been the best course (over the four years), but I think most, if not all, of us will end up with Cal Grant B and a couple thousand of Parent Plus Loan. Hence, I too believe that all of our “appeals” will be approved - most likely through the Cal Grant switch.

@Perched
They said if they accept your appeal, they pretend that it wasnt late at all. So you shouldnt be affected by it. But i guess no one knows but the financial aid office.

So uh, Idk if anyone wants this info but I’ll post it since it may help some souls that need to be saved.

I turned in my appeal May 10th. I had my father turn one in also because according to upperclassmen it has great effect and they respond more quickly. Not being a total spoon fed baby or anything, but I used my parents as long as they’re still there. WELL, my friend was also in the same situation but only sent his appeal in and guess what, I got full aid and he lost the UCSD grant and work study. This was all in mid-July btw, stressful 2 months. One more student wrote like 3 and got the UCSD grant but no work study that was expected.

So, if you have the chance and still didn’t receive aid, it may be too late but you may want to consider other tactics on how to have them give you money ASAP. Because some appeals are fully accepted, half accepted, and not accepted at all.

Wish you luck folks, I feel ya all.

@Perched

That’s confusing though. I wasn’t awarded Cal Grant B. Will they just give me back the UCSD Grant and Work Study then?

@boboman911

Does financial need factor into all of this? Like, if you basically can’t attend unless you have that aid, they should be more lenient to accept the appeal, right? And which other tactics?

@rainboflowerblong

the kid with 0 EFC didn’t get UCSD grant and work study. My EFC is 5099 and I got all.
