hi my name is ali and i am a grade 10 student in canada. I have about 2 months left in my grade 10 year and i am beginning my sat/college prep. I've ordered the new sat book by collegeboard, thats all i have done. All these asians in my grade are soo far ahead and i feel so far behind, can someone get me on track and help me get started on my sat studying and sat prep.

additional note: when should i take my first sat??

take the SAT ASAP (study some first, maybe...though I went in cold) I would suggest taking it twice, 3x max...
princetonreview.com is nice for college research. Fastwebs.com is good for scholarships. Always check out the websites for the colleges as well. Understand that the websites are gimmicks to sell the college, but understanding this, you can read between the lines and glean a lot of information.
Figure out where you want to go by the end of junior year. I started my search the same time you did, and I have changed a lot in the past year. Be aware of things you can do to prepare, but always do things only if they really interest you. Takes SAT subject tests, as well at the SAT 1, and ACT if you want, ASAP. That way you will not have to cram a bunch of tests into a short amount of time (my mistake). The common app. essays never change, so brainstorm on those.
Good Luck!!!

im still in grade 10 i havent even looked at any books or anything yet so i cant really take it asap, and being so unprepared whats the point considering the uni's still look at all your sat's

yes. I took them the first time in 9th, cold, just to see how I would do (people told me you couldn't study -1300, lol) I think it's nice to take it once without studying just to see how you'd do.. But maybe a practice test would suffice - I didn't know such a thing existed! Either way, good luck. by the way, studying helps amazingly.

Ali, go buy the blue book and start now!! Dont make the same mistake i did. I started studying during winter break of my junior year and guess what i was really stressed.

well sparknotes is free online, and i have barrons 1100 words you need to know. Having the blue book which should come next week, will going over it, self teaching and doing the tests serve me well??

What do you think??? Doing lots of practice questions and going over wrong answers and questions you didn't completely understand is an effective way to prep!!!!

ok. you are in 10th grade! there is no reason why you should be studying now for the SATs. enjoy life while you still can.

its also the same reason that it is so stupid to take the SAT starting in 7th grade....STOP STUDYING!!!!!! go frolic in a field or pick daisies or play on the computer or watch tv...anything BUT the SATs
