I'm interviewing

…Any advice for interviewing? How much weight does an interview carry at BMC? Thanks.

A good interview should definitely help you, and a lot of the people I talked with while at the Accepted Students Weekend seemed to have interviewed... I didn't, but I sort of regret it/feel guilty about it.

My advice on interviewing in general: Don't interview with your first choice or a reach first. I did that, and it fell a little flat. My second interview was MUCH better. During the second interview, I think the most important thing I learned was that the interviewer wants to be interested. Try to make it like a conversation. Let the interview contribute too- ask her plenty of questions.

And the second biggest bit of advice is to know a LOT about the school. Read the website, talk to current students, all that good jazz. Think of questions to ask that aren't completely explained on the website. Even if you had a good question and you got a couple replies from current students, ask your interviewer too- she might have a different perspective on it.

Just checked! The BMC website says interviews are "strongly recommended," so they have to make some impact. And College Board lists the admissions factors here.

There is a newspaper clip on the bulletin board under Pem Arch about the significance of admission interviews. It says that interviews at Bryn Mawr hardly ever influence admission decisions; their primary purpose is to give prospective students an opportunity to find out more about the college by talking to an alumna.

My advice: come prepared with lots of questions and an open mind :)

Thank you all. Will interview be weighted a lot in the transfer process? I'm planning to transfer to Bryn Mawr. :) btw, I want to gather some information about transfer rate, etc. from the website institutional research CDS, but it seems I cant download the CDS without logging in the Bryn Mawr Network...

Alum talking here -- just wanted to say that brillar's advice is excellent.

I also think that showing an enthusiasm for attending Bryn Mawr matters, too. Let your interviewer know that you really are excited about becoming a Mawrtr... and that you have dug into the school's rich history. Be familiar with some of our traditions and know who Drew Gilpin Faust, Matina Horner, Marianne Moore, Harris Wofford are -- just to mention a few BMC notables...

Lots of good luck to all Class of '13 applicants!

Yay! My BMC interview is over, and it was good! Thanks for all the advice :-)

:) Good luck with your search!
