I'm lost, what to major in??

Hi,

I am currently in my first year of college, knowing not what to do.

I love History, Geography, Astronomy (I suck at math though..), and similar subjects. The thing is that I found out that the job out look for those jobs is very low. But I love to read and write about awesome things happening to the Earth, and space. Also I love to read about ancient subjects, like the dinausaurs, and other. So I'm currently reconsidering my options on majors.

As I wrote earlier, I'm terrible at math.

Please, if anyone has been in this situation, with similar majors, please share your stories. Also others that has nothing to do and just happens to fall in to this thread by mistake, write a few words of your opinion.

Sincerely.

So you enjoy reading and writing, are interested in space science and natural history, and want something that won’t involve too much math. Some things that come to mind are museum jobs, librarian, etc. Unfortunately, those are very competitive, but once you get your foot in the door they can be really rewarding.

Based on information from the Occupational Outlook Handbook, it looks like librarian is the field with the most promise. Would that interest you?

No, librarian would not interest me. However, the museum interests me, but as you say, it’s very competetive and I really don’t want to spend 5 years of college and not getting a job. I know there is alwase jobs, but I don’t want to be unemployed for 1+ years after my studies.

I like space, unfortunally it’s alot of math involved. Physical Geography is really cool, I love it, all those incredible creations, as the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and the biosphere. I. love. it. I think it is mind-blowing and unfathomable.

What is that book you are talking about? It sounds usefull, where can I buy a copy of it?

Thanks for replying Mathgirl!

The occupational outlook handbook is put together by the department of labor.
[Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition](http://www.bls.gov/OCO/)

If you ever can’t find or remember the link just search google for OOH.

Have you thought about geographic information systems? It’s the more technical/employable side of a geography major.

Major in English, you need it.

drudkh: No, I don’t need to major in english since i’m not going to be working in a english speaking country.
