I'm narrowing down my college list, and I need help.

I've been actively working on my common app and parts of supplements for various colleges. I have a good list so far but it is much too big, so I need help narrowing it down. I'm from Michigan, have a 3.5 uw gpa, 4.0 weighted, 33 comp ACT, many sports ECs, some service hours, and can pay up to around 40K. I'm looking to major in something business-related, specifically either finance, supply chain, or operations management. Decision science also sounds fun. Could I have your opinion on what colleges I should remove or keep on my list?

From reach to safety:

Cornell
Georgetown
Emory
Carnegie Mellon
UVA
Lehigh
William & Mary
Tulane
Michigan
Fordham
Alabama
Maryland
Case Western
Indiana
Michigan State
Michigan Tech (already applied)

Georgetown only offers “Business administration” as a minor, so I don’t see how it made your list to begin with ;-)

I would keep CMU, Lehigh, Case Western, but I know less about the business offerings at the other schools. I’m sure others will chime in ;-)

I added it at the last second haha, but thank you.

MSU has one of the top supply-chain schools in the country.
I believe Ohio State is strong in this area, too, but since you’re in-state for MSU, I am not sure I’d bother with Ohio State.

Which college at Cornell are you aiming for? ILR?

They said they could pay in the 30K range, no scholarships. My grandmother has also been saving. And when I mentioned scholarships I meant both merit scholarships and any need-based aid

Did your parents now say that they’ll pay $40k?

BTW…if your parents are willing to pay $30-40k per year, then it’s VERY likely you won’t qualify for any aid.

Family Contribution is often more than families are willing to pay…hence the frequency of “sticker shock” or “EFC shock”.

Estimate that your family’s expected contribution will be around 33% of their gross income (higher if they have assets).

As you already know, Bama will give you free tuition for your stats, so get that app in now. Bama is already mailing out acceptances to those with good stats who applied this month. Get that and the scholarship in your back pocket.

Bama has a very good B-school and is strong is Supply Chain Mgmt.
