Im nervous/scared about going to UCLA

what if I don't fit in? the first few weeks will probably be terrible...

You will fit in. Don't worry about.

live with other transfers... I don't know if their is a transfer dorm??

I have the same concerns. So this summer, I'm hiring a consultant who will give me a makeover, wax my back hair, and inform me on all the ins and outs of westwood vernacular. I will also be applying instant tan to my entire body to make it uniform in color. I hope that will be enough.

haha r u serious.......

^serious about everything except waxing the back hair. I hear UCLA women are into the rugged Tom Sellick types.

i wouldn't worry about it.. just be yourself and you will be fine.

Yeah im really nervous too but ive been like that my whole life. I figure that I will have to find someone there to hang around with. And if not well then that just sucks hehe:)

Go visit the school, you'll be surprised how willing the students are to talk to a total stanger about the school.

i'd be scared, bc i pricture socal people to be hard to become friends with...i have this bad (perhaps distorted) image of fake/overly friendly/evil people lol superficial and fake people basically...and when i think of UCLA, i get this image of white people on the beach in my head..

again, TOTALLY judging, dont take my image of UCLA seriously, but i haven't visited enough to draw these conclusions.

I live 5 min. away from UCLA and know alot of people who go there (friends from honor societies at my CC, neighbors). I would say that UCLA students are the most friendly people I have been around. The only thing i would worry about is keeping your distance from the so called "hollywood wannabe celebrities". Most of these hollywood wannabe celebrities drive fancy cars and wear $300 jeans and $1,000 sunglasses. Don't worry too much, cuz these people are rare at UCLA. For some reason, they end up going to USC. LMAO (no offense).

I have already transferred, and I can't you that you are all making fitting in at UCLA a much bigger deal than it is. I don't live in the dorms or with other transfers, and I have made many friends. In order to maintain a healthy social life, you just need to get involved. Dorm life is one way. Other ways include joining clubs or Greek life and interacting with students in your classes.

Although I am in love with NorCal (my home), Socal is not all bad. Also, everyone at UCLA is really friendly, and nobody is going to judge you too harshly on a superficial level. UCLA is a very diverse university that houses many different cultures and thus is definitely not composed of white beach bums. I am confident that all of you will make many new friends and enjoy your UCLA experience.

^ Very true...UCLA students are almost annoyingly nice! (enthusiasm about the school, etc...for some this is a good thing?) I live 10 min away and while the hollywood fakeness isn't as prevalent on campus as it is just living in LA, you can definitely see its influence. Well, at least they're not airheads and have somewhat of a conscience, I mean they do go to UCLA...

lol i've spent a total of 10 minutes on the campus, and i know not ONE person who goes there...that was just a complete misinformed judgement...glad to know u agree though hah thats funny

^agreed. i admit i have my doubts and fears and some moments i question what i have gotten myself into... but i think we're just over thinking things. we're all going to have the time of our lives!

Hehe I guess we get the same fears all throughout our lives lol. From elementery to high schoool to college we all get some sort of fears I guess it is just the new surroundings.

all the CC transfers to UCLA should meet up...

Jeebus: I was always petrified the first day of HS....I went to FOUR different ones in four different states....in college the fear went away completely for some reason because people didn't give a **** about you. Im not really scared of UCLA, as in environment or people, just about making friends and...like what to do, what to eat the first day etc. etc.

Making friends will be easy if you know what your interests are and you aren't afraid to explore them. Also, the first week of school (zero week) is like welcome week or something and the school puts on events where you can meet other students. On the Sunday of zero week, there is Bruin Bash and then one day they have a activities fair where many of the on-campus groups are represented.

However, Westwood food seems lacking after living in Westwood for nearly a year, but I can offer recommendations.

Citan, that seems to be the only thing I have some problem with. But it cant be that hard, I hope hehe.
