1730 otu of 2400. Verbal 550 and Math 550 on SAT I ( I took a retake. Results should come in soon but I'm pretty sure I did the same.)
550 on SAT II U.S History
Plan on taking SAT II BIOLOGY and MATH I
Weighted GPA: 3.99 out of a scale of 6. and this doesn't make sense to me but my GC said using the collegeboard scale my GPA is a 3.3???
MY grades frst quarter as a senior are a mixture of mostly D's and C's with one or two B's and of course an A in gym ahaha. I have 7 classes btw
but this is because from 4 honors classes I jumped to 3 Honors and 2 AP's. I'm having a hard time getting by. Im hoping colleges will see I'm challenging myself. But I'm afraid they might think I was careless.

My EC. I dont have alot
Boston marathon
Film Club
vacation bible school

Drama club
literary magazine
writer's block

So how do I look? I got a response a few months ago but the person just said "You wont get in" and didn't explain why. Please give me a thorough answer.

Also does Syracuse require SAT II's? I plan to major in film and NYU doesn't require SAT II's for people applying to Tisch so I was just wondering...

First Generation is always a plus for admission. If the question was asked, make sure to mention it. As far as being Asian, it's more of a hindrance than a help, and usually one is better off leaving that blank. IMHO.

KMphychopath, I would guess that Syracuse would be a slight reach for you IF you are NOT applying to the School of Communication. If you are applying to the Newhouse School of Communication, I would say that you have little chance. Sorry

Kmpsychopath, The school of Visual Arts is a different school from Newhouse. SVA usually requires a portfolio, which has a substantial affect on admission. They are not as SAT and GPA oriented. However, that said, the School of Visual Arts is probably the second or third hardest school to get admitted to at Syracuse. It also is one of the best schools of its kind in the US.

taxguy regarding the portfolio I have something I'm working on already. Syracuse asks for a 5 minute video. So are you saying if my video is good Theres a good chance I'll get in?

If you are applying to the School of Visual Arts and have a great portfolio, and it meets the requirements of what you need to submit, you should substantially increase your chance of acceptance.

I can't emphasize this enough: make sure that your portfolio submission is exactly what they request. If they allow videos fine. However, for fine art and design, they want drawings from observation and not videos. Maybe this is different for other majors at SVA.

If you are a performing arts major, your audition is crucial.

i applied to engineering and comp sci. the thing about black students is most black high school students who went to majority black schools dont want to go to a majority white school. so theres less black applicants. and because syracuse is so adamant about this whoel diversity thing (it disgusts me), its almost like they have a certain quota. so its easier for a minority to get accepted. youre asian right? theres a nice asian population from what i see but you still cant escape the overwhelming number of white people. not saying anything is wrong with it. white people are like 80% of the student population because white people are like 80% of the applicants. its a white school. its a RICH white school. so if ure not used to being around kids in a totally different financial bracket than u, prepare to rethink some things about yourself, such as i had to do. other than that i love the cuse. its huge. theres always free stuff, and its college! its fun! theres alotta hills tho :/ and im not the most athletic person in the world so i had to get used to it.

I'm not that athletic either. I'm coming from a town that has a majority of white students in upper middle class. So it shouldn't it wont be such a big transition.

Lol free stuff is definitely GOOD. I want to be a walking billboard for cuse lol

also if I go to new york film academy for a year and then reapply (New york film academy is not a college. It's just this program where kids help and make movies with other kids) will it help me? I mean lets say I win a few competitions and get a bigger portfolio with better material..Would it help? Or will it not matter because they'll just look at my high school stats again? Because in all seriousness I plan on doing this if I dont get into Syracuse. If not just go straight to work after NYFA.
