I'm not sure what to do here (transfer admission question)

I got my acceptance letter to the Departmant of Materials Science and Engineering on Friday. I was previously on track to graduate with my AA from Valencia Community College by the end of this summer...but after I submitted my application in February I ended up getting very sick because of a severe medical condition (adrenal insufficiency) that I've been struggling with since high school.

I missed three weeks of classes and could no longer keep up with my Physics and Calc III courses. I withdrew from both classes and had to file Incompletes for my other 2 classes required for graduation (US Govt and a Humanities class, both of which I'll be working with my professors to finish up this summer). When I applied to UF my plan was to finish Calc III, Physics I, my Govt and Humanities requirements in the Spring and then complete Differential Equations and Physics II this summer before I graduate by the end of the Summer. Obviously I won't be able to do that anymore...I'll have to retake my Physics and Calc III courses this summer, finish Differential Equations and Physics II in the Fall and then graduate with my AA.

My question is...if I discuss my situation with someone at the MSE department up at UF, do you think there'll be anyway for them to defer my admission for the Spring (or even the Fall semester) of next year? Or will I actually have to reapply all over again, despite the fact that I was already admitted for the Fall? Please help me out here...going to UF has been my dream, it's just my medical condition that's held me back throughout my academic life.

Yes, you should call them and tell them the situation, maybe they can help you because it was not your fault. Good luck and I hope you get better.

This is ■■■■■■■■. I called the Office of Admissions and when I explained my situation to the lady there, the first thing she said was that there’s nothing they can do to defer me to another semester and had to cancel my application. She didn’t give me a fair warning and just went right ahead and canceled my admission from the system.

I then called the MSE department and explained my situation to an academic advisor there…she said that they could’ve considered deferring the admission, but since the lady at the Admissions Office already canceled my app, there’s nothing they can do. I’m so frustrated with myself now, if I’d only called the MSE department first I wouldn’t have gotten the application canceled and I could possibly have gotten my admission deferred for the Spring semester. I want to call the Admissions Office back and see if there’s anyway for them to un-cancel the application but the office closes at 5…do you think they can un-cancel applications like that? I’m so ridiculously worried now…what if I reapply for the Spring and end up not getting accepted? I really don’t even want to go through the whole application process all over again…this is SO ■■■■■■■■, if I don’t get through I’m gonna be beating myself up over this for the next few years

I feel bad reading this, THIS IS UNFAIR!!! you should call them again and ask them to un-cancel the app, although i don’t think that is possible you should call, also if you can, have your current college counselor so he/she can talk and maybe help you, a medical condition doesn’t mean you can’t attend! and yes, i think they can defer the admission!

I would call and say that you never called and gave permission for someone to cancel it, then tell them how upset you are that they would cancel something over the phone without needing proof of photo ID blah blah blah and see if that works!

good idea!
