I'm not sure where I'd fit best: FGCU, USF, UNF, UCF, FAU

I’m a junior in high school and not sure where i should go to college. I’m a girl from miami that doesn’t really match her surroundings; i don’t like the partying or smoking or drinking scene and tend to have minimal social anxiety. I’m looking for a school thats not too large, one where the party scene is low-key, however i don’t want to go to college in the middle of a desert town. I’m planning on being an english major and then going to law school. I’m applying only to florida public universities, these are the ones in order that i THINK will be best for me based off what little i know.

if you know anything on what campus life is like here when it comes to party scenes and environment/community, PLEASE do not leave out any details!! thanks

FGCU
USF
UNF
UCF
FAU

Hi, I would recommend posting your question on the UCF and USF forums, as they are both fairly active.

Sounds like it’s time for a road trip! Try to visit each campus. Keep in mind that all of them are a little “dead” over the summer. As a rule, the larger the undergraduate student pop, the more social options will be available. Research which clubs are available at each school, and try to determine if you’re interested in any of them. (once again, the larger the school, the more options will be available).

USF has the beach, UCF has Orlando, while UNF isn’t as “large” as the others, and is much more low key.

Good luck!

FWIW, the ocean beach is probably just about as close to UCF as the gulf beach is to USF.

Since you plan to be an English major, I would recommend you look into Eckerd. Their program is excellent and they have a Writer’s retreat led by Dennis Lehane which invites lots of famous authors.
(They take Bright Futures and have lots of merit scholarships).

I think the only way to know which college is the right fit for you is to visit the campus. We took our son to a lot of college orientations in the last few months. The kid acted like he was just along for the ride until we visited FGCU. He knew right away that this was the school for him. He’s kind of a quiet kid, but he got accepted into their Leadership Through Service community, and I kind of think he made the right choice. Best of luck reaching a decision.
