Hi guys! Its about that time, Im a senior and Im about to apply to several different colleges but I’m really worried. Im worried not only about getting accepted to college but also being able to pay because even though i have what i would consider to be a decent enough GPA of 6.4 (my district uses a weird GPA scale of 6.9 max, I’m in cypress Tx i think its a 3.7 in a 4.0 scale, it earned my top 15% in a really competitive school) i have a really low SAT AND ACT score which i earned a 1680 and 26 respectively. With those standardized test scores i know colleges wont give me any aid to help and pay and its got me really worried about my future. I feel like all those hours taking 9 AP classes across my sophomore, junior and currently my senior year (I’m taking 5 this year currently making 4 A’s and 1 B working on getting that B up though it still early) getting mostly A’s except 1 B in Physics AP are going to be waisted because I’m a terrible standardized test taker. I know it would be a huge strain on my parents to help me pay for it because they make a combined 90k a year but that doesn’t include their mortgage, car payments, taxes and other expenditures. Im thinking about working 2 jobs in college, i know its a lot but i feel like its my only option. I dont know… I need to know somebody’s input on this since i really cant ask my parents because they never went to college and emmigrated here from latin america… thanks guys
I’m also a senior
-E-mail the admissions counselors at the colleges you’re applying to. Ask them if they offer any scholarships and financial aid based on your financial status. You should apply for FAFSA.
-Two jobs may be a strain for you. If you can handle two jobs and the courses you’re taking throughout college, you’ll be fine. If not, you may become really stressed out and tired.
-If you’re really not sure, just know that community college is always an option
Hope this helps and good luck applying!
