Hi! I am a sophomore in high school right now and I am extremely worried about college. I go to a competitive school in New York City and have seen many intelligent and talented students be rejected by colleges. I am worried that I would not get rejected to any college I apply to. I have read articles that say that they would rather students only be involved and specialize in one thing such as sports. However I am in multiple things that I love to do but I do not particularly excel in, I am on my school’s swim team, wrestling team and am in debate. Also my overall average is a 95 (this isn’t considered high at my school) but I am only in one honors class. I often have anxiety and stress over college, I feel that I have no hope and will be rejected. Sorry if this sounds melodramatic or annoying but this has been a large source of stress for me that I do not know what to do anymore. Thank you so much to whoever will reply to this!
“I am worried that I would not get rejected to any college I apply to.” seems a bit contradictory to your point!! Relax and enjoy yourself (but study too of course). A 95 is great and you seem to be enjoying your extracurriculars-- if they’re just on your apps to enhance the applications, colleges will see that. A passion for your extracurriculars is more valuable than being the best at them. Take a deep breath, you’re only a sophomore you have lots of time to stress about college.
It’s too early for you to worry about college too much. Theres a college out there for everyone so when you apply just give yourself some realistic option with safteys, matches, and reaches. Try your hardest to kee your grades up and stay dedicated to the activities your in and when you apply to college it will show that you were dedicated for a long time. Also try to get good test scores (sat/act). I am like you and worried too much as a sophmore but now that im in my junior year i realized i worried too much. Although i got a bad sat score i still know that there is a college out there for me. Good luck with the college process and try to not to stress too much(easier said then done)
Clareyy, oh gosh what an embarrassing typo! Also thanks ud0212 your replies helped me feel a little less stressed about college!
Realistically, there are a lot of colleges that will take a non-stellar student. Unless you begin to take a lot of honors and AP classes and get As in them, you are not a candidate for elite colleges. If your goal is to get into college, continue to get those good grades, and you will be able to go.
