im really sad about my high school academics and i need advice .

so i just found out my the score for my first ap test and i am disappointed . i got a 2 on the ap world history test and i hate it. im entering my junior year and i want to know what i should do.

my goal is stanford and my parents having to pay nothing for my college fees or tuition because i do not want them to worry about me after having to pay my brothers and sisters college .

im going to be entering my junior year with 19 credits (technically a senior with that many )
i am going to be taking :
ap: physics , pre cal ,
dual credit : us history
regular english 3
1st semester sat prep class and the 2nd semester is still undecided .

online : 1st semester government class and 2nd semester science class

my school activities are :
band (technically leadership position)
national technical honor society
video editing club
founding member of my school’s robotics club .

in the stage of founding a aerial photography group.

my outside of school activities are
videography
visual effects
programming
video editing
music production

collaborations with my friends for video projects

im going to take summer school for:
english 4 (idk which for ) either online or in school

and 2nd semester science : either online or in school

with entering my senior year im planned to have 28 or 28.5 depending on some situations .

thats 2 more than needed to graduate.

my planned classes for senior year are
AP: computer science ,physic C , statistics
Computer maintenance
2 or 3 band classes
if i take two band classes i am going to take probably some programming class.

Maybe some online class

My extracurricular activities are probably going to be
band (leader)
video editing club (hopefully leader)
national technical honor society (hopefully leader )
robotics club (leader )
hopefully my aerial photography club .(founder )

i am going to hopefully have released my movie

finishing off my high school career with 35 or 36 credits
this is 9 or 10 more credits than needed .

what do yall recommend in doing or changing from this?
please help i feel useless and like i havent done enough .

i forgot to mention i am currently rank 17 in my class

My advice would be to: Ask yourself if you can actually manage Stanford. APs are a joke compared to many other high school curriculums, let alone education at Stanford, and getting a 2 on your first AP really does not suggest much about your academic calibre.
If you are not willing to give up: Don’t! You are still young, with time for improvement. It depends on your school/class size, but rank 17 is probably not high enough, try to get into <5. Try to get 2300 on your SAT/ or 34+ on your ACT. Your ECs are far from bad, but also not far from generic. Try to do something outside of your school to show your passion. A 2 on AP can be amended by 10 other 5s on the rest of your APs.

Good luck!

thanks very much for the support . i have very little support for my goal stanford so it is hard to continue but i will push to continue.thanks again !

You will very likely not get into Stanford. I’d look at other schools more at your level.

Rank 17 does not tell a whole lot. Is it 17% or 17 out of 200 students?

@jaze445 please no negativity . you do not know what im capable of and i would like to add my "level " is not defined by any school report or classifications as with everything i love to do i put 100 percent and would succeed at stanford . So please never come back here .

@billcsho i am rank 17 out a total of 936 students

There is a difference between negativity and reality.

@Davidhtx Stanford is a reach no matter what. Saying you will very likely not get in is not negative, considering Stanford’s acceptance rate is consistently < 7%. Also, you have listed your APs next year are Physics and Pre Cal. AP Pre Calculus? You can love Stanford, but don’t base your life around creating a resume to get accepted.

Is OP international ?

Without being negative, let’s look at your goals realistically:

1 Get into Stanford

This is a good goal, but with any applicant ( even if you were #1 and had a perfect GPA and test scores) Stanford’s acceptance rate is so low, that it can not be the only goal for any student. Reality is such that in order for you to be happy with your college choice, you should include other colleges on your list ( while still aiming for your goal).

If you post your interests and what you like about Stanford, people can help make suggestions. Also know that it is impossible to chance you without GPA and scores. At the end of your junior year is a good time to ask that question.

2 Keep cost low.

It is wonderful that you are considering this and thinking about finances. Now is the time to start the discussion with your parents, getting an idea of how much they can pay and if they qualify for financial aid. Colleges like Stanford are generous with lower income families, but some higher income families may not qualify. With several siblings, some colleges may be financially out of reach for parents. Now is the time to start the conversation.

Once you have your grades and scores, you will be able to consider different options- merit aid, state colleges, and if you qualify for need based aid.

The BEST thing you can do right now, to meet both goals, is to do as well as you can academically and work at getting good scores on the SAT/ACT, as this will increase your chances or admission as well as your eligibility for merit aid. Next year, at this time, you can be composing your list of colleges to apply to.

It’s okay to dream about going to Stanford but it’s not okay to expect to go to Stanford even if you work your hardest to be a competitive applicant because everyone will be as good or better than me or you. Stanford acceptance rate is 5.1% so be sure there are other colleges that you would like to attend. Nevertheless, I wish you the best and hope you do get in.

@Davidhtx Well, ‘David’, as much as you might want to not believe it, plug your ears and tell yourself it will work out, you will not get into Stanford. This is defined by your insane level of pretension. Your “level?” You’re not the special little snowflake you seem to think you are. Your ECs are generic and weak. If your AP scores are evident of anything, your grades are probably very low for Stanford. You don’t post any standardized tests. To top it all off, I’m going to assume you’re an international student based on your seemingly difficult attempts to speak English, which makes it even more difficult to get into Stanford. Find schools that are at your level (hint: that list doesn’t consist of Stanford).

That is much more informative. So you are within the top 2%.

@Pennylane2011 thank you for the advice

@arsene i am not necessarily basing my resume on getting to stanford but im basing it on goals i set for myself and accomplish .

@virsha24 good luck to you  i have multiple schools i want to go but that’s my dream school.

You should be taking the highest and most rigorous classes at your school of you truly want a shot, I don’t think normal classes and SAT prep as a class will cut it man. But if you truly want to show your potential, do something ground breaking and innovative that will make Stanford chase you

i am currently developing an aerial photography club for my school , a yoyo festival for my community and i am building the second prototype of a mount for phones that will allow fpv view with a couple more things possibly in the horizon .
