I'm sad because I might have to go to The Ohio State University

Hi everyone. I am a junior in high school in columbus ohio. I want to major in Public Health Education. I am considering Florida State Univeristy, UNC Greensboro, UNC Chapel hill, American University, U of Washington, and Ohio State University. I really don't want to go to Ohio State, I want to get out of Ohio but since my dad works there he gets 50% off. It makes me mad because unless get an academic scholarship to any of the schools I listed I can't attend there. I was wondering what do colleges look at when they give full ride academic scholarships for a minority? My parents can't afford to send another kid to college, my brother is a senior in Ohio State, and my sister a junior in Ohio State. I just wan't to broaden my horizons, and get out of Ohio. I am really going to be sad if have to go to OSU. I mean its a great school and all but it's just not for me.

Just apply for financial aid at all the schools. Some of your safeties would probably give you some FA if you really want to get out of state.

my friend is in a similar position except its University of Dayton. After three years, she has come to terms and is ready to embrace UD.

Also, why is it THE Ohio State University. That bugs me so much. One more reason why I hate OSU. Baaah!

Check out financial aid and scholarships. Sometimes you'll be surprised at how much is offered. I doubt you'll get as good of a deal as 50% of OSU, but you never know. I would still go for it.

Good luck with American U (it's my top choice). :)

OSU seems cool! Isn't it like the most populated university?

Really? How big?

No, I think it went down to second or third, cause of the University of Texas at Austin, and another college. But they all have around 50,000 people.

It always goes back and forth between UT-Austin, OSU, and ASU as to which is the biggest college in the nation.

Thats bigger than my town, by five times!

lol, I actually somewhat want to go to OSU because my dad's an alum. Plus I'm a really big OSU football fan...

You should get pretty good financial aide packages. THE HALF PRICE MAY BE IRRELEVANT B ECAUSE OF THE WAY FINANCIAL AIDE IS DOLLED OUT.

There is a lot of competition for students - as it should be!

Find schools that give good aid, where they need you for balance.

Get good grades.

Read the "Xiggi" thread herein for how to study for the SAT's - I used a similar method for the GRE's and got a 1600.

Frank

if your looking for minority scholarships check out ohio univ.-athens, its in state but athens is nothing like columbus, ohio u also has the gateway scholarship which gives you money based on act/sat scores... also check out u of dayton, they give nice aid packages if your a decent student and its a great school... and to oneiros, i hate the THE OSU thing as well and i hate the hugeness of the school 50000?? how ridiculous is that

where's celebrian... time for her to reconvince the op...

to the op... check out the templeton scholar program and other minority programs at OU-athens http://www.ohio.edu/diversity/academic/index.cfm the templeton gives full in-state tuition and also you might want to check out the gateway scholarship program at ou-athens http://www.ohio.edu/admissions/gateway/ if you get a 32 act or 1400 sat they give full in state tuition

See, I'm not a fan of huge schools. I love the shopping around OSU, but I hate the actual university, haha.

UD gives really good financial aid. I mean, I have poor SAT scores and a half decent GPA, but my dad is alum and they have already offered me $10,000.

UD? University of Delaware?

university of Dayton
