I'm so glade I didn't get in

^^^^ Its people like you that make me think that humanity is losing it. How dare you make that assumption that I’m doing this to get back at Columbia. It just shows how ignorant you are. Its like you think I’m a robot and I have no feelings. You should be attacking the students at question not me. And don’t insult me like that “Columbia made the right choice in denying you”. Just shows me your not key on the issues. If your going to insult me back instead of insulting the right people then don’t post anything. Good Bye have a nice life. Know what I’m not even going to post anymore. I just hope that the guys who do stay on the issue of radical students at Columbia. (again for the 6,000th time not all students at Columbia are like this)

Columbia09 maybe a semester or two at Liberty University would be good for you. Did you apply?

That hateful people made generalizations about so called “far-left” students?

Why is this argument relevant? The incident is over and the OP is “glade” that they didn’t get in. Well good for him/her and their opinion. Surely the school is taking care of these students, and we all need to move on and focus on other, more important things than a few knuckleheads. Instead of having this partisan debate we can all be reading books, volunteering, or working on scholarship essays right now.

Just FYI Columbia09 is the biggest wannabe ■■■■■ in Columbia Forums, definitely ticked off after being rejected despite being an eagle scout, just look at his other posts lol

Quote: “If your going to insult me back instead of insulting the right people then don’t post anything.”

So what kinds of people are “the right kind” to insult? There really is no need to be insulting anyone. This thread is stupid.

It is clear that the OP has no conception about the true nature of politics at Columbia. Most of the students are mainstream Democrats, and not “radical liberals.” “Radical liberals” contend that the entire conflict between mainstream liberalism and mainstream conservatism is a ruse that politicians use to ensure that they do not have to address the true inequalities in society. (I would know because I am one of those “radical liberals.”)

This OP is just ■■■■■■■■ because he did not get in himself. It’s selfish of him to attempt to ruin other students’ admissions experience just because he spoiled his own.

By, the way, I am “glade” that you did not get in also.

i don’t see how against the war you would have to be to openly diss a veteran who got shot 11 times. ironic how people’s “peaceful” views turn them into monsters.

i can only guess students (and professors) there are hardcore socialists… liberals are supposed to be “open-minded.” I hope Columbia isn’t a stressful place for people who are conservative/libertarian/capitalist in any sense.

As a dedicated hardcore socialist revolutionary, I can assure you that we do not treat people that way.

Here is a link to a video in which Fox News had the opportunity to interview the veteran that was heckled: [YouTube - Exclusive: Heckled American Hero Sounds Off](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

I personally do not believe that the remarks of these students are representative of the Columbia community.

Could you link me to an article on this?

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
This phrase bugs the s*** out of me. Like “soup Nazi.”
It’s not funny. I wish it would stop. I find people comparing ANYONE to a Nazi, even–especially–if it’s meant in a joking manner incredibly offensive. And yet, the phrase “grammar Nazi” is completely tolerated. You’re the first person (besides myself) I’ve ever heard be bothered by this.

sorry - former prime minister [Jeers stifle Olmert’sspeech - The Chicago Maroon](<a href=“Delays keep Proof from silver screen – Chicago Maroon”>Delays keep Proof from silver screen – Chicago Maroon)

Speaking as a veteran who is applying for Columbia, I’m kind of surprised that I have fended off arguments from right wing people regarding the school. (I’m a bit conservative myself.) The actions of a few hecklers should not be used to judge a significantly larger student body.

Should we judge Christianity because of the Westboro Baptist church? Or condemn Islam because of Osama bin Laden’s heinous deeds?

Certainly not. I would also add Columbia’s considerable support given to veterans since WWII to the recent Yellow Ribbon program (which is completely voluntary) that gives up to $20,000 a year for veterans to go to school there.

The reality is there are *****bags in the world. Some are conservative, some are liberal. Some have Ph.D’s from Stanford and some, a middle school education. Or as we put it in the military, “There is always, *that guy…” If need be, roll your eyes and be unhappy but vent where it is deserved.

Very disgusting and disrespectful.

I assume most of the students aren’t like that though.

A little late to the argument, but I just wanted to say two things:

This is very wrong of the students to do, but I don’t believe it is representative of the school itself.

Regarding the sign that says the military preys on low-income communities, I think this is total hypocrisy. My guess is that these students booing the soldier are also the type who are all-out supporters of Planned Parenthood, an organization whose abortion centers also prey on low-income communities (Margaret Sanger was a eugenist). Ironic.

(Also, I don’t mean to start any abortion debate or something, just point out the irony that the students don’t mind preying on low-income communities when they support the predator.)

In addition to this irony, I pointed out that since Columbia has historically had an over-representation of wealthy people, those barring military from the campus on the grounds that they go for lower income people evidently want to keep it that way.

On your abortion point… In areas made up of mostly African-Americans, I’ve seen billboards claiming that abortion is a genocide for blacks, given the number killed vs. the number born. Don’t know much about this claim, but I thought it was interesting.

In addition to what Stevie said I wanted to add that the military is considered a prestigious and respected institution in our culture. Many low-income people, such as myself got an opportunity to jump leaps and bounds ahead in society to get to previously impossible positions in our country thanks to the military. (Post 9/11 GI Bill, Yellow Ribbon Program, Free Schooling/Board, learning discipline, leadership, etc etc)

I kinda laugh when someone says the military preys on low-income people. Trying to recruit millionaires is not exactly a winning prospect.

Columbia definitely has a liberal bent to it. There was a Columbia Queer Alliance event to get everyone to put pink flyers on their window to support a safe haven for LBGT and their allies. I for one didn’t care at all, and there was a campus debate as well as spectator debate about how apathy was reprehensible. Also, after CQA printed out all the flyers, they were reprimanded by an environmental organization on campus for printing a flyer for every student.

The ROTC debate has been a bit overblown on campus. I don’t think the majority of the school actually cares about the topic deeply. We have school work and more importantly we know that our opinion really doesn’t matter in the eyes of administrators.

The anti-ROTC students are a bit much though. They held their own meeting because the town hall meetings were not open enough for them to speak their opinions. Only anti-ROTC students could come and though I didn’t attend, I can imagine it was quite negative towards the entire process. However, I will add that I understand their frustration at really being stymied by the administration. Who puts an openly pro-ROTC professor on an “unbiased” panel to discuss the legitimacy of the program on campus? Columbia ftw.

Um, no wonder you didn’t get in. You can’t even spell “glad” correctly for the flying spagetti monster’s sake! (yes, as you can tell, I am atheist… and VERY liberal.)
