I'm so MAD!!!

Get this...I'm taking an online year-long AP class at my high school, but for some reason, for the first semester I get REGULAR weight for it. (At my school you get honors weight for AP classes until you take the AP exam; then you get AP weight) Well, because I was doing AP work and got regular weight for it, as you can imagine, it killed my GPA. Now, this wouldn't be so bad because at the end of the class they go in and change it to AP weight, but it prevents me from being a marshall, something I have been looking foward to since I began high school. You see, it knocked me down from being somewhere in the single-digits to 14 (marshalls are top 11) and they say they can't change it because it is a state rule. This is NO WHERE in the handbook as I have checked atleast 4 times and they acknowledge this. I just don't think it is fair. Any ideas as to what to do?

"Any ideas as to what to do?"

Yes, GET OVER IT! Most students that are in the top of their class start playing the numbers game right off the start. I am not discrediting the hard work it takes to get there, but you have to continue to get A's in all your classes and take the highest honors/AP classes as soon as you complete the pre-requisits in order to stay there.

One of my boys (sophmore) had been ranked 1st in his class until last semester's rankings. OH NO...he is now second. He even took art (required course) as a pass/fail since he did not want to have an "A" (4 points) draw down his GPA. He is a state ranked runner. He is taking "Jogging" on line (<a href="http://elearn.byu.edu%5B/url%5D">http://elearn.byu.edu</a>) so that his phys-ed requirement is met. This freed up his schedule to allow for two 1 1/2 period science courses. Check with you school counselor to see if you are permitted to take a standard class as a pass/fail. Your goal is to have your transcripts confirm you met graduation credit requirments. Colleges don't care if you take gym,art or music as pass fail (unless you plan to major in those subjects).

This is not the end of the world. Sure you are disappointed. You should be. Pick yourself up and get back into the "game" (the GPA calulations game).
If you are a talented student (which is sounds as if you are), you can excel reguardless of this bump in the road.

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying. I did do well in the class (93) and generally don't concern myself with rankings and whatnot because I always do my best and numbers are out of my control. But, I just want what I rightfully deserve and earned.

who have you tried talking to? will your counselor help?

I've talked to the principal and conselor...and they all say that it's a "state rule". To make matters worst I even consulted the GC when I was registering for the class and asked him if I would get honors weight for the first half and he told me I would.

It does seem unfortunate, however, as of this last grade card...13 others worked just as hard. Don't lose sight of your goals. Keep your chin up. :)
