So this kid I made entertainment editor of the high school newspaper hasn't attended the previous two meetings, won't turn in the work I assigned him, and is now ignoring my emails.

Should I choose a different editor before the schoolyear starts or see what happens during the making of the first edition?

If some dude's compromising your school newspaper willingly, fire them. Perhaps you should ask him/her if there is a specific reason as to why he hasn't done any work, liek a family issue or something.

If he's really not cooperating, just eliminate the position. Add "Entertainment Editor" to the "Academic Editor" position. This kid can be second proofreader if there's an opening.

/sarcasm

You probably should confront him in person and ask about the problem. Then, and only after that, you should consider choosing a different editor, or not having that position at all. My school paper has no entertainment editor.

Thanks.
It's really getting on my nerves...

I'll email him...again...

who cares, it's the school paper..

^lol hey you have no idea what kind of drama can go into a school newspaper. Unless you watch that MTV show

It's tough getting everything together. I spend about 30 hours a week working on the publication.

I'm giving him the boot, I've decided.

give him one of these:
A Form Flame Letter

It is a school paper and everyone deserves a chance. Give him a chance to come up with a VERY good excuse. If he can't, find someone more dedicated.

Siglio21: This Form Flame Letter is amazing. Thank you so much!

Haha.

ahhh OP i know what u mean!!! im EIC of our paper next year and Im just SO overwhelmed..im creating a website as well for the paper...and its just so stressfull overall!

staff isnt so bad...but it seems like nothing EVER goes perfect no matter how hard u try!

^^^I really wanted to create a blog for the newspaper, but the principal wouldn't approve the idea. =(

Fire them. Send them an email that's like "Hey, I've already emailed you several times and gotten no response. I'm not giving you the benefit of the doubt [assuming that you've been working so hard on your editing job that you haven't had time to check your email ] and you're now fired." :]
