Yes, I am aware that there are literally hundreds of these posts but as decisions are coming up, I am getting more and more anxious about my admissions status. I come from a very small rural town in central california, so i don't really have anyone to consult with here, as not a large percentage of students go to colleges, and VERY few go out of state.

I applied to Duke's Trinity college of science as a Bio major, and plan to be a premed student.

Demographically, I am a first generation Chinese American. I'm ranked 1 out of four hundred and something students, I have gotten straight A's all years (unweighted GPA 4.00 weighted 4.44 <- weighted may not be exact, my school system is a little screwy) and taken most of the honors and AP classes offered here (AP chem (4) AP Eng lang (5) AP Calc AB (5) APUSH (4)) Although AP psych was not offered at my school, I took it anyways and scored a 5. This year, I am taking AP Lit, AP Bio, AP Physics, and AP Stats, and I have signed up for AP gov and AP marcroecon as well.

My SAT scores:
English 690
Math 690
Writing 670
(but the best cumulative I have ever gotten was 2020)

My ACT scores:
English: 34
Math: 32
Science: 32
Writing: 33
Composite: 33

I feel pretty good about my grades and test scores. What I'm really concerned about is my extracurricular.

I'm involved in a lot of school clubs, but they are very small, and regional. The only club I am in that has widespread merit is the Leo's club (I'm VP, and its a branch off the Lions organization). I also did MESA my freshman year only, and won first place in a regional competition.

I'm also in a 2 small fundraising clubs (secretary in one, treasurer in another), a club for welcoming foreign exchange students, and a club for alcohol and drug awareness. I've been an editor for my school newspaper for 2 years, but I was unable to take that class this year

I've volunteered as a free tutor here and there for my school, and I've volunteered in the emergency room of a hospital, as well as an assisted living home for seniors with dementia.

I don't do any school sports, but I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do (8 years) and I play piano (10 years)

I've also participated in Boys' State, and COSMOS (a summer program for science and math savvy students)

My main concern is my lack of research and intern experience. I know Duke is heavy on innovation, research, and entrepreneurship, and I don't feel that any of my extra curricular reflect that. My personal statement was about an experience that I had volunteering in the Emergency room and how it made me realize that medicine was my calling blah blah. I feel that this kind of essay is very typical and not very standout-ish.

I'm sorry for making you guys go over all of that, but I really need honest feed back, because this "Maybe yes, maybe not" is killing me. I hope some of you understand this feeling as you perhaps went through it when you were applying to college XD. Thanks so much for your time ^__^
