I thought I had a good chance of getting into a great school like Cornell or University of Penn. My other choices are:
NYU
Carnegie Mellon
Washington and Lee
George Washington
University of Miami
Emerson
John Hopkins U.
After looking at other people's records I'm starting to get really worried. My record doesn't seem to be as great.

umm...i guess that's mostly it..i might be forgetting some..but from that..what colleges do you all think i could get in? any from my list?

btw...i'm african american though i know that aff. action bs is outlawed in some states (not sure which ones)

also..i guess im middle class..my parents together make a little less than 100,000/yr after taxes..i have an older brother & sister who have both not gone to universities (brother-marines...big sister-nursing asst.)..i'm not sure if this helps..but another extra , i can write a wicked essay and get great reccs...

I think its easy to come on this board and feel inferior. But luckily GPA and SAT scores are only a portion of what ultimately decides whether you are admitted. Colleges look at your application as a whole, and, although a 1600 helps, having lowers stats does not mean you wont get in anywhere. Adcoms want to admit people, not test takers.

I think you're okay for GW, U of Miami, and Washington and Lee. Applying early to your favorite school should boost your chances. JHU and CMU are probably reaches, but I know that JHU LOOOOVES people who apply early, so if you like it, go for it!

If your SAT really does come out to be 2100, you have a decent shot at all of them, and probably have an outside shot at tougher schools. AFAIK almost all private universities practice AA - the states where it's outlawed for universities (CA comes to mind) only apply to its public universities.

hard to predict till you get the May SAT's back. Your guidance counselor might be able to help you find out how well your hs is regarded, by looking at how previous classes did in their college admissions.

Don't fret about it. The board can be very intimidating but it can also be very resourceful, once you get past the fright-fest and the deluge of high SAT scores and ranks.

There's no need to feel inferior. Every person has their good qualities and ultimately, it's your job to show it to the adcom.

that's weird..i get @least 10 things from colleges a day...
did u take the SAT's or PSAT's?...thats where they got my information from (the colleges)...try signing up @ collegeboard.com..u should get alot then..if not just ask ur counselor about colleges or use collegeboard.com to reasearc colleges and stuff!!

It is a great school, but it tends to be more oriented to towards conservative rich white kids who want to do nothing but party all four years (all schools do this but W&L to a higher degree). But if you are a rich, conservative, white guy then you will love it.
