So...

Ive done tennis for two years now. I am now a junior and thinking about taking tennis again this year.

Im probably the worst player on the team. I just have no atheletic ability whatsoever!

But I kind of want to play tennis because I know it will do my body good. I hardly ever exercise, and I know that if I join a sport, I will be forced to run, etc.

However, I am truely stressed out. I have wayyy too much on my plate already.

Now, what about college-wise...

Will tennis help my appplication at all

The only thing I could put on there... is my consistency -- for doing it all years of high school thus far.

Colleges don't care if you're good at it unless they are offering sports scholarships

if you make it on varsity... you can't be that bad!

You cant be so sure CecretCindy there are kids in varsity sports who suck compared to other school's JV team players. its in every sport basically.

Don't worry-if they have you on the team, what are you worrying about? I'm the worst player on my golf team, but I really enjoy it and I get in (a little, admittedly) shape. Coaches like me better than the "star" players-I go to every practice, and do the "extra" stuff (open house booth for five hours, etc) and go to meetings unlike people who are "too good".

OMG OMG OMG I am in the same position as you. I like tennis and am on the tennis team, but don't get to play much. Also I am probably the worst one on the team. I'm still kinda happy cuz I get some practice in at least. But I CAN'T WAIT UNTILL IT'S OVER.!!!!

I'm about to jump on the bandwagon lol
I like the sport but I just feel so intimidated by all the good people, which is basically the whole team. I'm really considering giving it up and doing something with my time that I enjoy more. Really I just sit around during matches, not...doing....anything.

Play mini-tennis.
You use a crack on a side walk (or just a line) and play tennis underhand, it's a lot of fun.

If your intimidated by being the worst, don't. There's always going to be a worst and that's nothing to be ashamed of. If you don't want to do it because your stress, don't do it. However, you should excercise every weekend like ride your bike, play tennis with friends, go to the gym, etc.

same. worst on team at soccer. i kinda wanna quit next year. I don't really like it all that much anymore+its a lot of time and I have a lot of other things I could be doing. At my school juniors are not allowed to play on JV, so unless there are a LOT of extra people (which there won't be next year, there were 4 people on JV this year from our grade and I already know of 1 other who is quitting), juniors are usually automatically on varsity. But I wouldn't play like at ALL, and I feel like it would be a waste of 4-6 hours of my day.

hopefully this summer will go as planned and I'll get really involved in my art and take art clases next fall instead.

the only reason I'm thinking of sticking with it is b/c I don't play another sport and other girls, specifically one on the team, will be getting really good grades and playing soccer. This girl is currently val., and she sucks even worse than me, but she plans on doing it simply because its the only sport she does and she wants to do it for college admissions. But I really hope that quitting soccer won't make much of an impact on my college applications.
why should a college deny me simply because I didnt play a sport all 4 years if I excercise on my own and wouldn't play the sport in college anyways?

worst on team at soccer.

she sucks even worse than me

Slightly contradictory statements, no? ;)

haha. sorry, I should have said "ONE of the worst on the team at soccer"
admittedly, she IS worse than me, and there is another on par with me (but a year younger). So if I DID continue, I would be, along iwth this girl, the worst on the team.
my bad.
lol

Alamode! I quit soccer after Freshman year. Gah. I hated soccer so much. I was so bad and all the players played too hard. They made me cry, haha. Just wasn't worth my time. I wasn't having any fun at all.

I mean, with tennis, I at least enjoy myself -- even though I'm terrible.

Uhh... I'm a member of the tennis team. Yet we have no JV. We only have a Varsity team. I play very once in a while: if all the other teammates are sick, I get to play. What does this make me? Does that mean I'm on Varsity?

Anyway, would doing tennis consistently in high school make an impact on my application? Would it make it look like I was consistent at the least... or would it make me look like I'm just doing things to put on my college application?

I already have a ton of passions for my application that involves the arts.

Bah, I wish I were good at sports.

i play tennis on my high school team.. and while im not the worst player, my team is the worst in our division. we have never won a match. and while this could get discouraging, i love tennis. i love my teammates and i love the game. playing 4 years despite of status on the team will defiantly look good on applications but if it makes you unhappy and you have other extracurriculars you shouldnt put yourself through it.

I was the #2 seed on my school's varsity team 8th and 9th grade, and our school had a record like 2-12 last year.....it was bad. I didn't play this year because I'm so busy with AP classes and precalc and chem, especially chem because I'm incapable of learning it. Maybe next year when I'm driving I'll join the team again.

But then again, it's hard playing tennis in Florida where there are so many good players and it's so hard to work your way to the top ranks of juniors. Some kids are insanely good and absolutely kill me 6-0, 6-0.

Actually, ChaosTheory, that's not a contradiction! Because if someone is "worse" than you at "sucking," then that person is actually better than you! Leaving you still in dead last in terms of non-sucking! :D

PorkFriEdRicE, a friend of mine who plays tennis is no good at the sport either, but she stuck with it as a passion all four years of high school, and that definitely played a role in her getting accepted to a top college. She doesn't have any awards for tennis nor is she ranked or anything along those lines, but the commitment she demonstrated by being on the school team for her entire high school career was a plus on her application. She used her love of tennis as a supplement to her other strengths, which you can and should do as well.
