I'm VERY average! ):

Am i the only one on college confidential that has like an average SAT score? I got like 1660 on the SAT (CR 430 + M 670 + W 560). This is really really low compare to other asians. I feel ashamed. lol. Imagine, the colleges i apply to will all reject me. If anyone has similiar SATs, let me know so i don't feel alone. lol

Your math is much higher than mine! I got CR 620 M 580 W 610. That was my first time taking it, as a junior, and I will retake it in November. I suggest taking it again, and maybe study! 1660 I believe is still above average. I think average is like 1500.

I wish i can improve my CR in less than a few months before i retake it… I’m like very distracted when i study lol… I’m not sure how can someone improve on CR when it requires active reading many times.

You should be fine for most state colleges. For selective universities such as Harvard, Yale, MIT, you have epsilon chance.

However, CR and W can easily be improved by knowing the tricks around those sections (however, vocab can be a pain). M is easy to improve by reviewing common formulas such as Pythagorean theorem, the “special” right triangles, etc.

What year are you? If you took this your sophomore year: 1. I envy you I wish I took it early and 2. Pretty good for a sophomore year. If you took it your junior year, it really isn’t the end of the world yet. If you have a chance of retaking it, do it obviously. You have to put in effort and study however. It’s all about the effort you put in! Good Luck!

@rspence- is there a compiled list of tricks? and do they work every time?

@rspence: tricks on the CR? Omg, let me know some. i could really use the help. And yeah actually i’m aiming for state colleges but i’m still scared they will not take me because my CR is still pretty low.
@ninchendo: i’m not a sophomore. Haha.

Tricks including, knowing answers that are too “strong” (e.g. by using the words “always” or “never”) are usually incorrect, knowing that half-true answers are incorrect.

when you say half true… does that include choices that contain “sometimes”?

if there’s a choice that says something like " this thing is more whatever than the other thing" would that be mostly incorrect?

@lilmelonred not “sometimes,” but answer choices that could be true but aren’t supported by the passage.

oh okay. thanks. (:. I think my real problem is focus or absorbing the info that it’s telling me.

Did you take the SAT in your sophomore year?
