I'm now in a California Comunity college, I plan to transfer to UC Berkeley, UCLA or other UC next year. But I found that all the UCs don't have the "Industrial Engineering" major except Berkeley. If I only apply Berkeley, I don't have enough confident to get in. Everyone knows that Berkeley is hard to get in.

What can I do??

Or can I apply Berkeley as a Industrial Engineering major, and apply other UC as a Civil Engineering major? Just for avoiding no school accept me?
Does anyone think this is a good idea? If I do so, how do I write my personal statement?

Berkeley appears to be the only UC campus with an ABET-accredited program in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.

However, there are many Cal State schools with such programs, including Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State East Bay, Cal State Northridge, Fresno State, and San Jose State, as well as a few private schools, such as USC and USD.

So you have other transfer options besides UCs. In California, the Cal Poly schools (especially SLO) are widely considered comparable, in terms of selecitivity and prestige, to the low- and mid-ranked UC campuses.

I don't want CSUs.....
I wanna go to better school
at least UC level
do you think I can apply different majors in different schools at the same time?

You can apply for different majors to different colleges.

As to "better school" be aware that Cal Poly SLO is considered one of the best engineering colleges and close to the league of Berkeley and UCLA. It is consistently ranked very high nationwide among engineering colleges that do not have a PhD program.

Were you born in another country/do you have URM status? (This would help) I'm just wondering because of some of your word choices indicate that English isn't your first language.

under-represented minority, but that doesn't apply to you. i dont want to be rude, but how long have you been in America, because it seems like you're still new to the language somewhat and that could pose a problem for college application essays.

Different majors may have different requirements to their personal statements. It all depends on the colleges that you are applying to. Sometimes, you might have to write two different personal statements anyway: one for the university and the other one for the department.

As for the majors, as drusba said, you can apply to any major on any college that you want, obviously provided that you have met the minimum requirements that they set on their websites (like having a high school diploma or somethign, I'm not sure). For example, you may apply an an engineering major to Caletch, and as a humanity major to Harvard or something, and they wouldn't care and their decisions will not dependent on one another.

And as Corbett said, don't limit yourself to just applying to UC's. Cal Poly SLO is easily as good as most UC's, and there are several other comparable (in prestige and rigor) school within the United States that offer Industrial Engineering program. Besides, names don't matter nearly as much as what you yourself do at school anyway.

When it comes to applying to CSU's you've got to think, what's more important to you, doing the major you want or going to a school with a "better name". And even that is arguable.
