Sorry, this is probably a stupid question but I'm confused by Cornell's website; i really don't get when we have to sign up for classes. Is it 7/14 or sometime in August? Basically, when can i START to sign up for classes?

Also, for AP Scores, do I need to call early to receive them? I live in NY, and they should arrive by around mid-july. Will waiting for my scores in the mail instead of calling to receive them early cause problems for me when I'm scheduling for classes?

Also, when I sign up for classes, does cornell NEED my AP score report? I'm very confident I know what I got on my AP exams this year, but does Cornell need to have my report on hold when I register?

Thanks a lot! :)

Sorry if they're obvious questions :

Online Pre-Enrollment starts in mid-July. You sign up for the courses you want over the net. The comp won’t check for prerequisites, etc. so even if you don’t have your AP scores or haven’t reported them then you can still sign up for higher level courses.

Example: You gave the BC exam in May and don’t know if you have a 4 or higher, but you are optimistic. So you sign up for a higher level math course (Let’s say MATH 1920) knowing that if you get a 4 or 5 on the AP you will be able to take this course.

You also have a three week ‘shopping period’ when your classes start in august. Which means that for upto three weeks after classes start you can switch, drop and/or add classes and in general mess around with your schedule as you feel necessary.

So going back to the previous example, assuming that it turns out you DIDN’T get a 4 or higher on the BC exam and ended up with a 3, you can’t take MATH 1920. So you drop that class and have to take MATH 1910, the prerequisite course that you could have skipped with a good AP grade.

So Cornell does not NEED your AP Score report for pre-enrollment but needs it for when classes start.

As for AP Score Reporting, I have those same questions myself.

Hope I helped.

I’m just going to call on July 1st and get the scores (it’s $8, no big deal but it is an inconvenience–they should be online like SATs) so I don’t have to wait (I’m dying to know even though I’m pretty confident) and am ready for pre-enrollment. As for the reports…didn’t you have them send Cornell your scores when you took the tests? Or do you just mean they won’t have it early enough?

Thanks a lot suzaliscious :)

^ I meant them not having my scores early enough. I indicated on my AP sheet that I wanted Cornell to receive my scores.

So… does anyone know if we need to call early or not?

No, your fine either way.

If you know the prerequisite material, and can demonstrate that to a prof, then you can take any class you want. Prereqs are more guidelines, less laws.

Sign up for classes you think are cool, once you get to school, you’ll have two weeks to adjust your schedual to your liking. I definitely shuffled my schedual more than once early first semester.

My one reccommendation would be to be wary of psych 1101, and to know what you are getting into before you sign up. Maas gives a (pretty good) lecture during o-week and lures in a bunch of people, but after a semester of him, he tends to wear on a lot of people.

alright. thanks a lot :D
