Several of the schools I'm applying to say that a year of high school physics is required for the engineering program. I haven't taken any physics & I had to cancel the course I was supposed to take at a local college this summer b/c we had too many bills/expenses to pay.

Don’t know what schools you are talking because most I am aware of don’t state physics as a “requirement.” Instead they usually require three lab sciences and definitely prefer to see physics as one of them (and not having it may be considered against you). If they actually state it as a “requirement” then they likely mean what they say and your application will not be considered without it.
