So, I was talking to a friend of mine and she basically told me that I'm a goner in terms of college applications because I have never and currently am not taking Physics, and its my senior year. I'm well aware that Physics is considered one of the holy trinity sciences and whatnot, but my GC told me that it wasn't necessary for a prospective English/Philosophy major and I had no interest in taking a math-based science.

I know that its better to have Physics but my friend basically made it sound like I'm going to be auto-reject from any school in the top 100 because I've never taken Physics despite strong ECs, SAT, GPA, class rank, etc...

youre fine. physics is RECOMMENDED, but definitely not required. i know of PLENTY of people who got into top 20 schools, even higher tier ivys, who never took physics.

i don’t think it’s a deal breaker, if everything else is as great as you say. i guess it would depend on the college, too. like harvard might have a problem with it (but i don’t think it’s enough for “auto reject”), while oberlin or wesleyan wouldn’t care as much. but it’s not like i’m an admissions officer

Oh. I read it as “If I read correctly” because I thought you were getting the t-20-40 school thing from this post specifically, which was weird.

If you have the requisite number of lab sciences, not taking Physics will not be an auto-reject, particularly if you’re looking lower on the list. Just try to impress them with other aspects of your application and you’ll be fine!
