All Bard looks for are driven students who show understanding of a book (but don’t be afraid if you’re confused about parts, too. Ask about them–asking shows you want deeper understanding) and have thought about what they’ve read.

They use First-Year Seminar books for IDP which means that each sentence in each book is there for a reason. It’s up to you to engage in it. Don’t take each sentence as is. Ask yourself WHY it’s there. What it’s purpose is. Do you agree with it? If so, why? If not, why not? Think of examples to explain to others why you believe your conclusion for what you’ve read.

By doing all of these things, you gain better understand of the book itself, they way you read, and the discussion will be infinitely more interesting.
