Impact

I mentioned on another thread about Impact, the Christian retreat for incoming freshmen at A&M. Here is the website in case you want to know more:
http://impact.tamu.edu/

I seem to remember that all incoming freshmen receive invitations to attend.

Though some say that Impact is a "Christian Fish Camp", the Impact staff will take pains to assure you this is not so. At Fish Camp, you learn about things such as study habits, dealing with roommates, diversity, protecting yourself from crime, alcohol, drugs, and sex. You also learn about Aggie traditions.

Impact is a Christian retreat. They talk a lot about the importance of belonging to a Christian community (friends, etc.) and living as a Christian in the college environment. They like to say that fish Camp is about Aggie Spirit and Impact is about the Holy Spirit! :-)

Thank you very much for the info.~

timely, do you know anything or have info. about the Aggie Access program?

I'm sorry, but I don't know what the Aggie Access program is.

does this camp also provide information about study habits, sex, drugs, traditions, etc... for the incoming students? Which one would be the better choice for a financially strapped parent to send their child to?

I don't see the Catholic church or Aggie Catholics listed. Is this not for Catholics?

Catholic students are certainly welcome to attend Impact, but all the organizations affiliated with Impact are Protestant. Here are some links that would be of interest to Catholics at A&M:
St. Mary's Catholic Center - College Station, TX
Catholic Students Association | Student Activities Online

To your first question...no. I'd say the focus is more on being a Christian while in college. They do talk about relationships and about various temptations that the students will face. They talk a lot about community and about prayer, too. They spend time in praise and worship, in discussion groups, and listening to a speaker, but they also play games and do lots of crazy stuff to help the kids relax and make friends with one another. It was life changing for my S. At Impact he committed to following Christ at A&M and 3 years later he has not wavered from that commitment.

As to choosing which to send your child to, maybe let him/her decide. You could send him links to the websites: Impact Freshman Retreat at Texas A&M University - Home/url

Are Baptists Protestants? I honestly didn't know that. Shows what I know! Thanks for the info, Timely....

LOL! Basically, the only 2 Christian groups that would not fall under Protestant are Catholics and LDS (Mormons).

Thanks for the information, Timely. You have been a great help.
