Importance of AP scores

How important are AP scores on college apps? I'm planning on applying to UCs. I'm not sure what to dedicate my time to, SAT I or just 1 AP exam (chem). I already did pretty well on my chem and math SAT IIs, so I'm not sure what I should concentrate on. I've heard that AP scores aren't important at all; schools only look at it to see if you passed, not how high the score is.

well, some schools look at the score, but still the Sat is much more important. Study for that more than the ap test.

I think (biased) AP scores are important for all schools that have available spaces to fill out the AP scores on their applications. Otherwise, you don't send in your AP scores until after your acceptance to college. But like Shark_bite posted, SATs are far more important.

Since you're applying to the UCs, I would focus on the sat IIs. For admission, the IIs are calculated into your score while AP scores aren't. However, if you already have decent SAT IIs, I would focus on your APs since the UCs are pretty lenient on giving AP credit. I think most of the credit they give is for scores of 3 or above.

Only 2 SAT IIs are required for UCs right? Because I got 790+ on math and science, don't think I'm going to take any over again. So the general consensus here is that I should study more for SAT I rather than AP test, correct? The thing is that I don't think 1 good score on an AP test will help me much on college apps (since I only have 1 ap junior year).

what colleges have an availablel space on their application for AP scores?

I think most colleges do. All the ones I applied to did, to my recollection. But honestly I don't think AP scores matter too much in the decision process.
